Spent two delightful nights at Mauna Kea Resort in March. Good news is that it is an amazing resort-- fantastic beaches, great food and wonderful golf. Top notch on all three of those accounts (including wonderful chaises on the beach with umbrellas for those that need/like shade). Amazing (!) Clambake Buffet on Saturday evening featuring outstanding sashimi, lobsters, crab, prime... More

From the mid-century modern architecture to the friendly, helpful service, this hotel is a classic in every respect. Classy too. The only thing we didn't find to be absolutely perfect was the food and beverage. It's lacking. There's not a lot of choice in what you eat. And when you eat it, it's blah, blah, blah and uninspired. Mauna Kea,... More

We stayed for 7 weeks..Many great experiences, many not so great......The best are easy to write..wonderful staff, incredible beach etc., etc......I will only add the criticism as I would hope the hotel will stay on it's desire to continually improve.. First of all, there is a definite need for more dining options...The Manta is outstanding, and though very expensive, well worth... More

We spent 7 days at the Mauna Kea Beach Resort in April, 2015. We were part of a large work group. The service at this hotel is top notch. From the moment you arrive you feel like a pampered guest. The front desk was great and honored a late check out for us when our flight was drastically delayed. The... More

Aloha and thank you for staying with us. We do want to mention that in addition to Hau Tree for lunch, our Number 3 restaurant at the golf course is also an excellent option. In the evening, dinner options can be expanded by taking advantage of the complimentary shuttle to our sister hotel, Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. We do agree... More

The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, which is now under the Marriott Autograph line, is a beautiful hotel on the Big Island. Note that it isn't owned by them, but is now a franchisee of Marriott. The hotel is about a 30 min drive from KOA and is very easy to get to. If you come this island, you'll most likely... More

I went to the Mauna Kea Resort Luau and I was very disappointed to find out that you don't get to see the Imu ceremony in which the roasted pig is lifted from the ground pit and raised. However, it appears on the brochures, making you believe that you get to see it, when you don't. That's false advertising. I... More

We DO have an imu unveiling at 5:45pm on luau evenings and we apologize that you either did not arrive in time or were not made aware of it? We are glad you enjoyed the dinner and show and hope that you're able to return one day to see the imu unveiling. Mahalo. More

This hotel has the best swimming beach we have found on the Hawaiian islands. Very sandy and swimmable. For this reason there are a lot of kids and families, so if this bothers you then it is maybe not for you. We loves the Manta restaurant and they also have a great breakfast buffet. The rooms have been updated recently... More

Aloha and thank you for visiting! The mix of guests is very dependent on the season so the fact that you recently visited - during spring break/Easter season certainly meant there were more families enjoying the resort. Early fall (Oct/Nov/early Dec) you would not find that to be the case so perhaps something to consider for your next visit with... More

Notice I said "view" as I also stayed at another high end luxury resort on the island which was just phenomenal. That being said the Mauna Kea acknowledged our Gold Marriott Status by giving us a beautiful ocean front room. The room had plenty of closet space and the beds were comfortable with Frette sheets. Our bathroom had an amazing... More

This traditional, Hawaiian hotel blends well with the spectacular setting. The views are amazing. The staff is exceptionally pleasant and helpful. We were treated with a bottle of champagne upon arrival simply because we mentioned it was our wedding anniversary. The hotel contacted us before our trip to document our needs during our stay. We will definitely return to this... More

The Mauna Kea has been a vacation destination for my family for over 30 years. It's our favorite Hawaiian resort because of the beach, which figures prominently in the hotel's name. Perfect beach for swimming, wading, boogie boarding and relaxing. It's with distress that I add hotel management needs to start controlling the beach more especially during high seasons of... More
