I would give the highest recommendation to the Solar de Alvega -- the 18th century manor house is handsome and elegant -- the accommodations spacious and comfortable -- the location rural and scenic -- for booklovers it's very inviting with small libraries, dens, and reading nooks -- plus a fine collection of books, especially English literature -- but most of all we enjoyed the warmth and hospitality of hosts Paul and Luiza Mallett, who are both very special people -- they really made us feel at home in every possible way -- and our conversations with Paul and Luiza were intellectually stimulating as well as delightful -- the Solar de Alvega was the perfect place for spending a couple of tranquil and rejuvenating days on our three-week tour of Portugal --
