We thought we'd selected an exclusive reputable hotel (pretentiously quoted 5 stars) when booking at the "La Réserve" in Knokke-Heist for New Year (30/12/06-01/01/07). Disappointment fell when the door of room 341 was opened and it was immediately obvious that the heating had been turned off. A very cool welcome indeed! It took neigh on an hour for the place to warm up. Then our faces fell yet further: in the bathroom, the sanitory installations were decrepit, the tiling broken and of a revolting aspect, the dressing gowns worn and torn at the pockets, no bath towels at all, the curtain to the Velux had been removed ... and in the bedroom, deplorable state of the furniture and window ledges woodwork, decomposition of the carpets, cobwebs, etc... Elsewhere, the lifts, the corridors, the shoe-shine machine, the gardens and even the signposting are all in a delapidated state.
