We have visited the prince of Wales on several occasions particularly as they have had Belgian beer both on hand pumps and in the bottle, however they are no longer stocking it. The range of real ales is still excellent and the food very good, especially the desserts. It is a real pub and that makes it a great place... More

We visit this pub as often as we can especially in the summer when we walk there anf back from South Woodham Ferrers. Had spent the weekend in Norfolk with my parents where we found if difficult to find a pub which served proper food everything seemed to be to fancy which is what we didn't want. We left Norfolk... I concur fully with the review by Mr Creosote ! I frequented this fine establishment over many years, and still visit when I can, now living further away. No fruit machines, no pool table, no darts, and no children in the main bar ! Can you imagine the fuss if a child got burned touching the Victorian oven, which is... More

Firstly this is a public house. Furthermore, this is a public house that focusses on selling great beer. Additionally, this is a public house that serves good quality and interesting pub food and has four well appointed rooms. In that order. Because it is a free house, that means that the landlord can decide to serve who he likes, when... More

My wife and I had lunch at this pub today, as we do frequently. It is not our local, but we always try to eat here at least once a week, and have been doing so for some years. It is simply the best pub I have ever come across, and well worth the 34 mile round trip from Leigh-on-Sea.... More

We drove 25 miles to get to this Good Pub Guide recommended pub to have some lunch with our12 year old. On entering we were greeted by signs stating that children were not allowed in the bar area. We went to go through to what appeared to be the restaurant area with roaring log fire and were told we were... More

My experience of this establishment was poor. Should of had a sign on the door "children not welcome"! We were out looking for a place to eat lunch when we found this pub. On entry, we missed the sign informing that children were not allowed in the main bar and was told by an extremely arrogant and moody landlord where... More

Beautiful old clapboard pub with open fire; we arrived for lunch about 12:30 and there wasn't a seat to be had. It was worth the wait; the food was classic British, home cooked with local produce. On a cold winter's day, I chose the suet steamed mint & lamb pudding with sympathetically cooked veggies - it was glorious. Add a... More
