Just back from a lovely short break at 'The Crown Country Inn'. This 'olde worlde' pub ouzes originality, charm, and character, and is ideally located for the touring of the many local beauty-spots. The accommodation is spotlessly clean, comfortable, and more than adequate. The food is top-notch, varied, well prepared and presented. Service is excellent, helpful, caring, and considerate, at... We found this place via a Google search for somewhere to stop for lunch on our way to the Lake District. Although they didn't have any main meals available because they were doing a refurbishment, they had sandwiches and ploughman's lunches on offer. We went for the ploughman's. It was served with 3 different sorts of cheese and a large... More

Just back from 2 nights at the Crown Country Inn. Used as a base for exploring the Lake District. Less than 5 miles to Windermere. The Inn as a lovely blend of the old and the new. Bar and dining areas were old and the bedrooms and bathroom the new. Bed was very comfortable, plenty of tea and coffee available... More

Evening meal only - did not stay over. Main course was perfectly acceptable and fairly priced. Service was friendly and cheerful. Desserts were exceptional and you would not have thought they came from the same kitchen. Strongly recommend that you leave room for one if you go. . Overall, nothing exceptional but worth a visit for the desserts alone.

Stayed for the weekend with friends. When we arrived we discovered there was a beer festival on with 'special' (limited) food menu. Didn't really create a problem but nothing on web site about this and an e-mail in advance would have been helpful. Had supper there on the Friday but ate out on Saturday. Having said that we had a... More

Very nice country inn just off the main road, tucked away in a sleepy village. We stayed one night with friends. Good selection of beers in the bar and an excellent menu in the restaurant. Continental breakfast was basic but certainly adequate. Smart clean bedrooms, quite small but cosy. Ensuites steal from the room space. Modern clean ensuite shower room.... More

My wife and I stayed at the Crown Country Inn at High Newton late May. It is not the worst place we have ever stayed at but it was very close to being so. The room was fairly small but on the web site it was described as one of their medium sized hotel rooms, which did indeed include as... More

Just come back from two days at the High Newton. Was very dissatisfied. Bed wasn't made, bin wasn't emptied and no tea or coffee stocked up in the room. Continental breakfast consisted of fruit juice, small box of cereal, bit of cheese and a bit of ham. No fruit. Didn't rate the evening meal. Would not go back again. Stayed... More
