The Rica Arctic Hotel has been purchased by the Scandic Hotel chain. It is currently (November 2014) in need of much renovation of the rooms, which are small, sparsely furnished, and cold during winter weather. Prices are currently much too high for the quality of the hotel. It is the only hotel in the center of town, but Kirkenes is... More

Kirkenes (KIrke=Church) on the boarder to Russia is a small city living from mining, fishing, ship repairs and Russian tourists. It is the turning harbor for the Hurtigruten (The Costal Express) six days up from Bergen, the same for the route back. In summer it is very busy with more hotels open. In the dark season the choices are fewer. Rica,... More

We stayed here the night before departing on a Hurtigruten boat trip. Arrived in the morning, which gave us time to walk around the center of town after a delightful light lunch. Ate all our meals in the restaurant, all of which were enjoyable (and good service!). Room was clean and comfortable (with heated floors). Staff was friendly and helpful... More

not too many options but paying 334 USD (for 3) is a lot of money for what we received. Rooms very small. We asked for bath robes to use while going to the swimming pool and the girl in the reception said it's only for the VIP guests. normal rooms don't get them. I asked for extra towels instead and... We stayed here for one night after leaving the Hurtigrten boat trip. Very comfortable, clean room. We ate in the resturant and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Breakfast very good. Location is good for centre of town, and airport bus passes right by. A bit disappointed we weren't told about tea/coffee making facilities on ground floor as we didn't discover these... More

We didn't stay in this hotel - which clearly was a mistake. But we came to have a breakfast when there was half an hour left the service. Still you served us with a smile and asked if we wanted to have more breakfast. And even when the waffle liquid was finished you said to my friends: "We can make... More

Comfortable, clean room, free wifi, perfect night sleep, fantastic breakfast with smiley staff making it even better! No tee/coffee making facilities in the room, but everything you need is available on the floor (good selection of tees too!). Perfect location in the very town centre with an airport bus stop just outside.

We arrived on the late flight from Oslo and needed somewhere to stay before we picked up our hire car. Arrived in a freezing blizzard and was greeted with a warm smile and a very simple check in procedure. Rooms were very comfortable. Despite the late hour dinner was still available fish soup and reindeer were hits with us. Staff... More

Stayed here overnight before catching the Hurtigruten to Bergen. Pool nice, sauna very nice, free tea and coffee, helpful staff. We decided to eat dinner in restaurant and we both had reindeer ( medallions and burger). The medallions were excellent ( 315NOK) but this is Norway. Bill came to 1000NOK. Great breakfast with plenty for every taste. Beds very comfortable... More
