This was my first experience in a Parador so I cannot compare to others. As I was expecting, it was a beautiful historic building located in the city center, which is very convenient to walk to the main attractions. It's only a 10-minute walk to the Roman Theater so this is a great option for Theater Festival goers. We found... More

Only certain Relais et Chateaux can compete with this Parador !! It is like staying in a museum whilst benefitting from all relaxing, comfortable, pleasant, kind, informative hotel services, as well as excellent food and beverage. The breakfast buffet may be slightly overpriced, unless you are willing to adopt Dutch tourist behaviour and fill up and take away a picnic... More

A beautiful Parador with lots of history. We had a special deal which included a suite. We visited with our scottish cousins, we both took up the offer and bedroom, lounge and bathroom were very well appointed and large. Good underground parking.

Room - fine - all mod cons and a separate living room so could close the door on the AC. Slept really well! Dinner - ok - some other diners complained so it wasn't perfect but we sat outside with a bottle of wine, so no real issues there. We stayed in 3 different Paradors back to back and the... More

As with most Paradores the building is very interesting in it's own way. Do not expect luxury. However the rooms and facilities are fine. The Hotel has been sypathetically arranged, with some old features clearly on show. Nice bar area, courtyard, and safe underground parking ( a little expensive). Being close to the centre of Merida, numerous cafe, bars, restaurants,... More

I cannot understand previous reviews criticising this charming Parador. Yes the building is old, it is a former 18th century convent, but it has a wonderful atmosphere, and it is very clean. The location within a 10 minute walk for visiting the amazing Roman sites. We found all the staff very friendly and extremely helpful. We ate outside in a... More

We are both bilingual Spanish/English, lived in Spain for many years and are frequent visitors. Neither of us can understand the "love story" that people use to describe the Paradors. The Parador in Merida is not very inviting, inside it is a maze, a veritable labyrinth and the reception desk is the farthest it could possibly be from the parking... More

It has a pleasant, helpful staff, a cozy bar, neat quiet rooms, a generous breakfast, and a peaceful neighbourhood .... Hard to ask for more. It's a five minute walk from the main shopping district and about 20-25 minute walk from the roman ruins. As with most paradoxes, it's fun just to walk around the place. It's also about a... More

As with many Paradors, it is priced at the upper end of the market, but the building and location are spectacular. Rooms were excellent and the beds comfortable. We walked everywhere and really enjoyed our stay. Apart from breakfast, we did not eat there, because I don't like heavy evening meals, but based on experience at other Paradors, the food... More

Whenever we are in Spain we love staying in Paradores. They are either old monasteries and castles or in great locations; sometimes they are both. The Parador de Merida is one of these -- great location and wonderful old building, but unfortunately the interior of this one is showing its age. As one of the oldest paradors in Spain it... More
