We ended up in Bad Wimpfen on a busy Saturday evening, having tried several fully booked hotels in the Neckertal (including the Neckarblick)

Hotel Sonne is in the Michelin touring guide for Germany - but not at the address they give! We looked for it in vain, finally asking at a local cafe as to its location. Bizarrely they asked if we had a reservation (we did not) and then guided us a couple of streets away and showed us a choice of rooms. It transpired that the original hotel burned down a few years ago and this one is now run by the owners of the cafe and neighbouring Weinstub we chose to enquire in. If you succeed in finding the hotel and reception is shut the note on the door directs you to the cafe!

We picked a room right at the top of the very tall 16th century traditional wooden house, painted pink. A long walk up 4 flights of stairs with the cases but a lovely view across the town and a large room with lounge area and writing area. There was metered... more
