As we're based in the village this is an ideal location for business visitors and we recently used the hotel for a guest staying a couple of nights. Our guest also ate at the Crown and the reports back were favourable. We'll definitely use the Crown again.

Visited The Crown to celebrate a friend's birthday. It was their choice of venue as they had visited the pub before. We found the food of good quality, and the draft were friendly and efficient. Would eat there again.

Stayed here August 2013 whilst touring in the area. Offered choice of rooms and chose a very spacious one. Staff friendly and helpful. An interesting area, and did a pleasant evening walk locally. Altogether a favourable experience.

My wife and I stayed her overnight so that we could attend a cheese making course nearby. The hotel is quite old, and lovely to stay in. The rooms are well decorated and comfortable. The meals served at the hotels restaurant, bot dinner and breakfast were excellent and well priced. The restoration work that has been done fits well with... More

My Birthday party for 30 people. From the moment I suggested a mass table to Mark and crew the arrangements were made effortless. A 3 course menu was made available with 4 choices per course. All I had to do was provide the order in advance, agree on the wine and Roisin and the team did the rest. We occupied... More

Wife and I popped in for a swift pint. Lovely ,clean and comfortable pub...obviously not your normal boozer! We didn't eat but did notice that the menu was quite pricey... but according to most reviewers its worth it. Would go back.

Stayed for a Birthday treat. Room was decorated nicely with a large bathroom and bath to soak in. Lovely view of the green outside. In terms of food both dinner and breakfast were superb. Main courses for dinner on the upper end in terms of cost, however the quality and taste justified the price. All staff very polite and efficient.... More

we shared the mussels starter which was lovely - delicious moules, sauce and crusty bread. My partner enjoyed the hamburger, though found the smoky flavour of the cheese topping a little overpowering, and didn't think it was overall particularly outstanding. Very nice chips, dip and onion rings though - fortunately for me as I'd decided to have a double portion... More

I stayed at the Crown for the odd few nights recently whilst visiting family nearby (visiting from Australia). The food is excellent and the ambience in the pub is warm and friendly. There are four double rooms which are nicely decorated and very clean. I would recommend booking either room 3 or 4 if you want to access the wifi... More

Our first visit to The Crown since it has reopened with Mark in the Kitchen, I am pleased to report the service is good and efficient, same decor as before which is fine. The important bit is the food, and Mark we have followed from the Gravetye Manor to The Cat at West Hoathly, The Red Lion and now the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Crown has been an inn for more than 250 years and was orginally a medieval hall house in the 14th century. A couple of months before being assassinated, U.S President John F. Kennedy slept in the parish of Horsted Keynes when he stayed one Saturday night at Birch Grove, the home of former Prime Minister Harold Macmillan. The American Secret Service closed the village that night, siting their communication hub in the Lounge Bar of The Crown Inn. On 1st July 2003, a lightning bolt struck the electricity pole beside The Crown. The roof and much of the building were destroyed by one of the largest fires in the area for many years. Fortunately the fire did not spread to the oldest part of the building and it has now been restored to its former glory. The Crown remained shrouded in scaffolding for 5 years and in 2008 renovation work was started. After nearly 2 years of work The Crown opened in November 2009. ... more   less
