I had the pleasure of meeting Lisa Star, owner and poet laureate of Block Island. Her passion and enthusiasm for preserving the island's heritage and distinct flavor are evident in this unique and pleasant Bed & Breakfast. The house itself has an inviting appearance and is situated nicely between the Old and New Harbors. It is a bit of a... More

We stayed two nights at the Hygeia House. It was clean and quiet, the perfect escape. The rooms were large with an antique feel, the windows overlooked the most picturesque scenery. I've stayed in bed and breakfasts closer to town before but they tend to be loud and make you feel as though you are just another tourist. Hygeia House... More

Not your typical B&B. Rather renting a room and cold breakfast items are available. In a gorgeous house, gorgeous view, room was outdated, low water pressure, and cluttered (including kitchen). Interesting history and some very delightful people staying there. Walk from town is a hike and uphill. (not the 3/4 mile we were told) It was more pleasant than this... More

What a great location! Located between Old Harbor & New Harbor, with a beautiful view, calming breeze on hot days, perfect for a good night's sleep! Lisa couldn't be more accommodating, and warm. A Block Island breakfast is provided with a variety of coffee & tea choices, bagels, pastries, cold & hot cereals, juices, yogurt & fresh fruit.

Stayed here with my 2 daughters for a recent 4th of July wedding on Block Island. We enjoyed the character, and the hostess was quite gracious. The inn is a little outdated, as noted in other reviews, but the beds were comfortable and the location couldn't be better. We enjoyed our walk to / from town and the marina, although... More

Stayed here due to a change in our schedule, ended up coming to Block Island a day early and decided that we would like to check out another accommodation during our visit. This was our first stay in a B&B so I didn't really know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. Room - smaller size, bed was a little... More

This was my first stay at a true B&B and it was a little underwhelming. The "bed" part was ok. The room was definitely tight and not very easy to maneuver. The closet door didnt open all the way because the bed was in the way. There was no mirror above the sink but instead to the right of it... More

We liked our stay- although our room was small we had wonderful views and enjoy porch sitting on front and back porch. Nice to hear the history of this place- once an annex of one of big old hotels. Twenty min walk from ferry- quieter to be out of town but closer to Old Harbor and a couple of restaurants.... More

We just returned from a week at the Hygeia House, and I can't say enough good things about the place. The views were stunning, our room lovely, and the overall vibe very welcoming and laid-back. Lisa and her staff were so wonderful, and we have never felt so "at home" in a B&B as we did at the Hygeia. At... More

I was disappointed by my experience at Hygeia House. Pros: the location is wonderful with beautiful views and very little traffic noise. We could easily walk in one direction to a dock area and in the other to the weekend vegetable/crafts market. Cons: a cold breakfast that was not adequately stocked (e.g., no sugar one morning); our room was cleaned... More
