I have just returned from five days on board the boat hotel, African Queen. It was a most enjoyable, relaxing experience. With only twelve passengers you soon became part of a happy band of sailors. The boat is a converted Dutch Barge with most of the facilities that are found on larger vessels. They are however scaled down in size.... More

Seeing our great national river up close while others do all the hard work was well worth the price. You would be hard pushed to find such a combination of excellent food and under-stated seamanship anywhere else. All we had to do was relax and enjoy. Given our weather can be unpredictable the boat was well fitted for all possible... More

If you are looking for 5-star luxury then read no further. If you are looking for peace, great food, and you have a love of nature and can live closely with like-minded people, then this is the place to be. It is necessary to be sociable on a boat where space is at a premium but 'mien hosts', Andy and... More

An unusual and unforgettable experience. Andy is a very entertaining raconteur, Bonny is a great cook, and Bobby quietly and unobtrusively gets on with, well, everything. He deserves a medal. I expected to rough it a bit, but I was wrong - the showers were hot and the boat was warm and cosy. On the Saturday evening the 14 guests... More

Have just spent a fantastic weekend aboard the African Queen as a surprise for my husband's 60th birthday. We were not disappointed. Welcomed aboard by Andy the captain, a great character. Food absolutely gorgeous cooked by Bonnie Andy's wife. Bobby the crew man worked tirelessly every day to ensure the smooth running of the boat. What a great team on... More

We saw this unusual hotel and thought we'd try something different for a weekend away from London. We had a really nice weekend aboard this boat. Everything is rather small and a little squashed but still comfortable, especially as we had the slightly bigger room and our bed was suprisingly comfy. I was impressed with the shower pressure and the... More

Have been in email correspondence for over 2 months and was under the impression we had reserved a 2 night break for a group of friends (aged 40-70 years). Have just been informed the African Queen have since taken other bookings for the dates we wanted and I have now been told they don't want group bookings incase they are... More

Great venue great service no complaints re food and remember its a barge so if you want up to date plumbing and space standards don't book it. Worked great for a group, can't see it being so good for couples. Drinks a sensible price however Bobby and Cherry are priceless, and are adorable. Other than sending 'mine host' on an... More

We have just completed a family trip on the African Queen with my wife, 92 year old father, my sister and her husband. There were just nine passengers on board with three crew. We had a great time. The passengers were very entertaining and the service and food were both excellent. The Captain was an entertaining "mine host" but could... More
