We stayed for 1 night last year and wished it could have been longer. Fran & Ian were the most gracious hosts and made us feel very welcome. Our room was very well appointed with the smallest details thought of - well done Fran and Ian. Dinner was amazing, Fran is a real foodie and this shone through both dinner... More

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Lodge at the start of our honeymoon - and our hosts made us feel so special. The food was delicious from homemade bread rolls, dinners using local produce and the signature lemon soufflé for pudding. On our first night we had a superb dinner on our own private table overlooking the... More

Staying one night at this place was a wonderful experience. Room immaculate and well designed. Fran and Ian are wonderful hosts. The dinner, lunch and breakfast are in the highest category. Nothing could be expected more other than to stay longer there. More

We stayed at this lodge in February 2011. The welcome was lovely. The food out of this world. Our room was the old stables and was roomy, comfortable and private. The grounds create a beautiful setting & the surrounding countryside is amazing. Wendy & Peter. Bedford England More

My boyfriend and I stayed 3 nights at Waipoua Lodge after a week long kayaking trip in the Bay of Islands. Ian and Fran were extremely gracious hosts. With total ease, they made absolutely everything happen that we wanted to do - spot an endangered kiwi, see the giant kauri, go on a Maori-guided walk... even find hand-made bone carvings... More

It was lovely to meet you and share the immense and often undiscovered natural wonders of the amazing Kauri west Coast of Northland, New Zealand. We are in a remote and beautiful location surrounded by the ancient and mighty kauri trees but, as you say, only a couple of hours from the beautiful east coast Bay of Islands and three... More

Staying at the Waipoua Lodge was the best possible start of our holiday! The lodge itself is very beautiful and comfortable. We stayed in The Woolshed and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Do stay for dinner because Fran is an amazing cook. She prepared a special vegetarian meal for me every day of our stay and tickeled my tastebuds night after... More

Thank you for your lovely feedback - it was such a pleasure to meet you both and have you stay at the lodge. Your very generous gift for my birthday (a voucher to plant a tree in the Waipoua Forest) will be shared as a special occasion with our daughter when she visits at Christmas. Kind regards Ian & Fran... More

We only stayed one night, but Fran & Ian are terrific hosts, and we had a wonderful time at their lodge. The meals were delicious and Fran & Ian were able to take time and share their insights, which was priceless. The pedigree boars are a hoot (and if you do go to visit them, please take food with you... More

Thank you for your review and choosing to stay at Waipoua Lodge. You are right our pedigree native New Zealand Kunekune pigs (Holly & Bessy) definitely enjoy visits from our guests - after all you don't get to be 70 kg without a little regular sustenance! It is now winter with quite a lot of rain and guests have renamed... More

Thank you for your wonderful feedback and as new owners we are installing more fly screens so that windows can be left open on our warm summer nights and guests can enjoy a perfect night's sleep with perhaps just the occasional call from a native Morepork (owl). More

Waipoua Lodge was so perfectly authentic it felt like we had finally arrived in the real New Zealand. The charm of the lodge was surpassed only by the warmth, good humor, and service of Fran and Ian as our hosts. Fran's menu offerings were innovative and delicious and the ambiance great-- whether served on the back deck, the back porch,... More
