Four aspects of this beach hotel really stand out in my opinion: great beach, great art, great Sunday brunch, and appropriately appointed rooms. Hawaii has a very crowded field of "beach resorts" all vying for some love and attention. Most of them do not deserve the pristine beach front property they occupy. Not so with the Mauna Kea. Management clearly... More

Our family of 4 (18 and 16 yr olds) had a wonderful stay at Mauna Kea. Don't be fooled by the unimpressive exterior ... our beachfront rooms (disclosure that we were upgraded) were spotless and stylish, the beach was beautiful and the staff + overall service were excellent. Only restaurant we used was the beachside one and it was spot... More

Almost two months have passed since we left the Mauna Kea and I think about it every day. The perfect spot to relax, get spoiled ,see beauty like you have never seen before and enjoy the kindness and caring of a superb staff. Can't wait to return.

If you don't recognize the name Mauna Kea as quickly as other fine hotels and resorts, you should. This amazing property is the best of the Hawaii with luxurious rooms and amenities, the best beach on the Kohala coast, fine restaurants and golf. This was our second stay at the Mauna Kea and we are already looking forward to our... More

We just finished our second stay at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel in as many years. The Mauna Kea is such a special place and it has really made me and my family appreciate what Hawaii has to offer as a first class vacation destination. The entire stay this year (7 days) was incredible. The hotel and the location are... More

The Mauna may not be perfect for everyone based on some of these reviews. However, it is perfect for us. The location is perfect and you begin to relax as you enter the gates and see the beautiful ocean below. The entire hotel has a casual understated elegance that we love. It's small enough to feel intimate and the guests... More

We just returned from a week at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and now understand why so many families make this an annual pilgrimage. The property is gorgeous. It is about 40 minutes north of the airport, and while it feels exclusively remote, you are only about 15 minutes from Waimea, Mauna Lani and Waikola. Check- in was designed to... More

We spent just 3 nights at the end of a condo on Kona and an inn in Volcano 2 week trip. It was a relaxing and memorable visit. Check-in was very smooth. Loved the lei at arrival. Jeffery, our bellman, was very charming and helpful. I booked the room through otel.com (not hotel.com) and got a very good rate for... More

We're delighted you chose to end your Hawaii Island visit with us and that you enjoyed your stay. We do want to mention that, unlike nearly every other resort in Hawaii, we do not charge a mandatory daily resort service charge. That way, only guests who utilize parking and WiFi are charged vs. all guests being charged whether they use... More

We last stayed at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel 17 years ago. Fond memories of a glorious beach brought us back. The beach is as beautiful as ever. However, with fewer rooms now, due to the renovation, the beach was much more heavily populated with resort guests then we remembered. We could not understand what was happening. Finally we were told... More
