Have given 4 stars which maybe unfair but the reason for this was because of the lack of atmosphere. My wife and I stayed overnight midweek. Rooms lovely, friendly welcome, good wifi, spotlessly clean. When we went to the bar I had expected it to be more a pub than restaurant. At first we were the only two persons in... More

The Black Swan is everything we expected and more. I am, frankly, baffled at some of the negative reviews on here, although they are in the minority. A rather late review but better late than never! We stayed in March and opted for the special spring offer which included one night’s stay, and breakfast, half a bottle of champagne in... More

Hotel situated amongst fields kind of in the middle of nowhere making it very peaceful. Room was small but equipped with everything you need. Fresh milk in the fridge for your tea which is always a plus point with me (cannot abide plastic milk cartons). Bed very comfortable. Really didn't want to get out of it this morning. Only negative... More

We have lived within 14 miles of the Black Swan for 14 years but never visited, what a mistake!! Less famous than other North Yorkshire gastros, nonetheless it is so so good! The welcome, service, and of course the food are all just right. We have booked again for a birthday celebration in a few weeks, expectations are high.

This is a very quiet exclusive place to stay or even just to dine in. Our room was in the converted stable block with private parking. The room was very well equipped, mini bar, coffee, tea, treats, small sewing and shoe cleaning kits and the lovely four poster bed gave us a good nights sleep. Large bathroom with bath and... More

The Black Swan Hotel in Oldstead (Yorkshire Moors) spoils you for anywhere else. The comfortable room, spacious bathroom, friendly, professional staff, and fantastic meals will be hard to find again. Located in the country with various walking paths nearby, the atmosphere is peaceful and restful. The hosts will help you plan your explorations of this beautiful part of England. But... More

We had a one night stay at The Black Swan in early June,as part of a tour around North East England. Our room was in a converted stable block to the rear of the main building. It was spacious, comfortable and well equipped, and had private parking, separate to the main car park. Our evening meal was very good indeed, good local ingredients, imaginatively used, with a modern presentation,which... We visited the restaurant over the weekend with some old friends, who we had not seen for nearly a year, for a reunion get together. Premium prices raise a level of expectation that wasn't delivered on this occasion. The food was good but not outstanding and I felt the portions were on the small side. The overall impression was a... More

We were looking for something special as part of an anniversary treat and the Black Swan certainly provided that. Set in a small village and run by a local farming family it feels authentic and rooted in Yorkshire without for a minute being parochial. The rooms ooze taste and comfort with every need met. The bed was comfortable and the... More

Have been wanting to try the Black Swan for ages but it comes with quite a high price tag so had been putting it off for awhile. Decided my husbands birthday was a good excuse to splash out and I got a late deal (worth checking the website) which made the price a little more manageable. The drive to Oldstead... More
