This place has everything. In a beautiful quiet Yorkshire village, you feel miles from anywhere. The pub is cosy and has the most tranquil of atmospheres. Staff encredibly relaxed and welcoming, definitely no snootiness here. Rooms are well furnished, comfortable, quiet and unpretentious. Loved the cocktails made from unusual garden/foraged ingredients. The food is absolutely top notch, proper old-fashioned ingredients,... More

I have eaten in various incredible establishments around the world so tend to recognise quality from the very first point of contact. We discovered The Black Swan in a Great British Pub Guide 6 months earlier so being back in Yorkshire we thought we would give it a try. It was very last minute and we were very inappropriately dressed... More

Visited the Black Swan some 5 years ago and had an oustanding meal, tried again last Sunday for lunch, don't really know how to describe it other than strange, whilst sat at the bar we were served 4 amuse bouche, with a couple of drinks which were quite pleasant, but 4 seems over the top. Shown upstairs to our table,... More

I like the venue and the location. But food wise it was more style than taste. Desserts were the exception which shows where the K itchen is strong. Still some way to go before the price is justifiable and the staff could learn to manage constructive feedback.

Stayed as a Christmas present. I am a little conflicted about this review, on the one hand the location had real charm and the breakfast was really lovely. On the other the dinner was disappointing and just not special. Felt like trying too hard; or the mushroom and white chocolate lollipop- I am all up for experimenting but it has... More

We stayed the night at the Black Swan after a splendid fine dining experience. I had realized that this would bea challenge being a power chair user. I had already contacted the hotl/restaurant and had received helpful informatiobut it was clear that they had no real knowledge of disabled access issues and no facilities to surmount the problems. We had... More

We chose the worst day of the year to cross the pennines - three attempts to avoid flooded roads from 3 different junctions on the M6 but after visiting Richmond and North Allerton we finally got to Oldstead for one night's stay and the 8 course tasting menu. The room we were given was only launched the night before so... More

We went for our anniversary and had an excellent evening of food with wine pairing and stayed in one of the lovely rooms in the beautiful country setting but with modern room with wifi and wetroom! Would heartily recommend!

The Black Swan at Oldstead is definitely worth a visit. The hotel and restaurant are located in gorgeous countryside. We stayed in a cottage up the road from the main pub building. The food at the Michelin starred restaurant was one of the best meals I have ever eaten. We arrived a little early for our taster menu and enjoyed... More

The exquisite location and the outrageously beautiful weather during our stay only helped to burnish a little more the delight that was our Black Swan experience. The quintessentially North Yorkshire Moors wayside hostelry with its open fire, stone floors and sheep in the field opposite, hides 5-star accommodation, top-class service and food that tosses many more southerly establishments into a...
