We stayed as a group and enjoyed our time very much. So as to provide a balanced report, Ill deal with shortcomings such as they are. The only criticism that I would have is that there could be a larger variety of fruit for breakfast. Thats it. But I fully understand any shortcomings given the location. Everything else is excellent.... More

...it's almost impossible not to relax at this place. As compared to nearly every hotel in Ethiopia, it's quiet and doesn't make it's main revenue from the bar/disco. The scenery is spectacular and it's a good place to home base when exploring the many rock churches of Tigrai (an absolute must). I highly recommend the place but take along bug... More

Gheralta has a lot going for it - beautiful location, reasonably priced for what it is, well placed for seeing nearby rock churches, stunning design and attention to detail, good food and drink and very comfortable rooms, BUT... it was let down by poor management and service when we visited. On our first night the bedclothes were pretty damp (we... More

Enrica and Silvio Rizzotti have created their beautiful lodge overlooking the Gheralta Mountains. The staff are friendly and helpful, the indoor garden an oasis. We enjoyed the library. Our room was nicely designed - and we had plenty of hot water. Most rooms have wonderful views. Beware however the noise from the adjoining room - felt they were in bed... More

Absolutely fantastic. Well worth the cost and the effort to get there. Meals were great too. A nice base for hiking into the the Tigray scenery. More

This lodge is situated in an elevated position with great views of the rugged scenery in this area. The rooms are built in the style of the local stone built houses, set in the grounds of the lodge. The room are well equiped and comfortable, with modern efficient bathrooms, but they have nice traditional decor and furniture, that gives them... More

After working in Ethiopia for two years and visiting most parts of the country, Gheralta Lodge was my absolute favorite place to stay, without question. Not only is it clearly the best hotel in Tigray, but for short-term visitors to Ethiopia, I would suggest including Tigray on your itinerary largely because of this lodge. The scenery is amazing, the churches... More

The Lodge is the best available in the Hawzien village and worth it to stay a night or two if you pass through this area. The food is good and another reason to stay here. The only advice I'd give is DO NOT use the Lodge for booking a driver-for local, airport, etc. The manager charges significantly more (~40% higher... More

Ghearalta LOdge is a 3 hour drive and 1 hour flight away from Addis Ababa so would TripAdvisor staff please put that right. It is just outside the small and very primitive town of Hawsen/Howzien in Tigray Province, Northern Ethiopia. Not far from Axum. Why would you want to go to this primitive town? Not for anything in the town... More

Friendly helpful staff, nice room, exellent food (but the packed lunch was rather dull). Nice atmosphere. We stayed four nights and wish we could have stayed longer. More
