This must be the best place in Brazil to see wildlife. Jaguars, monkeys, river otters, too many types of birds to count. It was a feast. But at a price. The hotel experience was miserable. There are two foltels within a couple of hundred yards of each other. I don't know how they are related in ownership, but they are... More

My wife and I spent three nights at the SouthWild Jaguar Suites flotel on the lower Piquiri River in the northern Pantanal. The Pantanal visit was arranged by noted biologist Dr. Charles Munn for his SouthWild company, and expertly guided by Jose Padilla. My rating is based in part on the level of quality of accommodations on a floating hotel... More

This floating hotel was in a perfect place to undertake daily safaris on the surrounding rivers, in search of the Jaguar. The wildlife we saw on this trip was superb - 7 different jaguars, with 11 separate sightings, not to mention the giant river otters, caiman, capybara and abundant bird life. Although we travelled on a 'group departure', circumstances meant... More

Travelled with Naturetrek specifically to see Jaguars in the wild. We saw them in spades along with Caiman and Giant River Otters. In one session, we followed for two hours (by boat!) a jaguar in full view hunting caiman and capybara. Simple food but plenty of it. Alcohol expensive! You need the strongest DEET available as the horse-flies have titanium... More

If jaguars, giant otters and nature are your priorities, and you can afford it, go to this place. It is ideally situated for this. New luxury rooms have just opened, but the old ones are OK, pretty small and a bit basic, but you will be out all day on boat trips, so you will only really use the rooms... More

I must start by saying the the Southwild Flotel is not luxurious but you aren't planning to go here for Spa's and Sauna's, you are going for the wildlife aren't you? Yes? Being on the river 30 mins out of Porto Jofre the Flotel is ideally situated for fast access to the wildlife, Jaguars have even been seen walking along... More

So here is the scoop on this most unusual property. Located in the heart of the Pantanal, this flotel literally floats on the Cuiaba River and is located closer to the most common places in the area where jaguars are seen. You can stay "in town" but you will incur an extra 20 minute boat ride just to get as... More

This is a superb location offering "guaranteed" sightings of jaguars. Giant river otters, caymen, and a remarkable variety of birds can also be seen. Jaguar sightings are quickly broadcast so expect up to ten boats jostling for the best views. The cabins are very small with a claustrophobic atmosphere and require refurbishment. Air conditioning worked well but was very noisy... More

Let's face it, they all tell us the same thing. "We can't guarantee you'll see these animals - they are wild". But Charles Munn, the owner of Southwild, says that if you give him 4 days and 3 nights on the "Flotel", he GUARANTEES you will see a jaguar. In fact, he has been saying this since 2006, and has...
