Ranked as El Salvador's best place to stay by Lonely Planet, we were eager to visit La Tortuga Verde. A few points that left us a bit disappointed after staying there for 3 days: 1) The food is very expensive (e.g. tipico for $8 and basic pasta for $8.5) and it's not so easy to go eat somewhere else (3km... This place seems to be a perpetual work in progress - they are always adding stuff! We went to the opening of a great vegetarian cafe at the back of the property that will no doubt be very popular. The dorms are comfy (no bunk beds is always a bonus) and cleaned regularly. The menu is huge and varied, and... More

Positives : right on the beach, clean dorm rooms, good deal while there for a free night in dorm, free drinking water, great masseuse Working points : staff, was difficult to get food. You had to go , ask for a menu, then go find them again when you wanted to order. Room didn't seem to get cleaned, we had... More

Great place, great atmosphere, had a lot of fun chilling on the beach, catching a pelican with a broken wing to be cared for by the hostel, paddleboarding (though an upcoming storm did manage to make coming back an interesting adventure) and in general hanging out with everybody. I did not even surf... still it was one of the best... More

If you are in El Cuco, you must stay at the Verde Tortuga. Great rates for rooms, plenty of options for meals, and reliable and friendly staff. The grounds have a jurassic park style feel with heaps of Palm trees, seating for lunch and a nice pool. Instead of dinosaurs theres pelicans. The views of the beach are amazing, along... More

Beautiful resort for people who really want to chill at the beach. There is nothing else to do but surf, swim and just chill. The staff is super friendly and the volunteers always know hoe to make a party. Only downside is that living there is quite expansive, although there is a pupuseria a little bit further along the road.... More

We stayed here for two nights after the husstle and bustle of San Salvador. It was definitely worth making the trip to El Cuco. The beach was lovely and the sea was super warm. We saw a turtle on our first day on the beach which apparently was unusual. the dorm room was large and airy with plenty of space.... More

We had an awesome time here. The room was beautiful and clean and the food was great. We went on a fishing trip and the staff prepared our fish hat night for us and is was delicious. The beach is great. We went out on the beach at night and we saw a turtle coming up the beach to lay... More

Don't let them put you at Rio Mar if Tortuga is full! After looking for a place to stay in between travelling from El Tunco to Punta Mango we decided to spend the night at La Tortuga.. From the get go everything seemed like such a hassle. Firstly we got there where they informed us there were no rooms available... More

With all due respect when you arrive to a hotel that Lonely Planet calls the "Best Place to Stay In El Salvador" it's a good idea to have reservations and so I am sure you were disappointed when the option of Rio Mar was offered to you. Rio Mar was the original estate home of the Hufftstatlers, who pioneered this... More

I went there - unfortunatly - at the Salvadorian week of rest, so the Hostel was fully booked. The owner was so kind to me, he brought me with his car to a place, where usually the personal is living, and there i have get a privat room. He allowed me to come to Tortuga verde, and use the facility.... More
