We enjoyed a great stay at this friendly pub with fabulous new rooms recently added in a separate building at the back. Would certainly recommend, particularly if you are in the area for walking, fishing or other activities - they are in the process of building a drying room for wet gear.

Called here today 4th August for lunch and it was very good, I had fish chips and mushy peas the other half had the 8oz burger the chips were first class as were the homemade onion rings. The deserts that people around also looked lovely but unfortunately we had no room full as an egg!!! Thank you for a lovely... More

I stayed at the red lion for four nights whilst working in the area, what a great place to stay and eat. Top class food and an excellent choice of real ales , the new lodges were great for anyone enjoying the great outdoors. Ian and his staff made me feel very welcome and I have already booked the lodges... More

I went with three friends ( one of whom is French) last week for a three day fishing break on the River Till. The Red Lion ( where I had coincidentally had a light lunch last year) was recommended to me by the fisheries manager. Run by Iain and Claire, the pub comes with hospitality in abundance. Staff ( and... More

I can honestly say the food here is fantastic, just under £11 for steak pie, home made chunky chips and pies which is all good but I would pay that just for the pie never disappoints, however the customer service is very poor but the food makes up for it.

We stayed here for 4 nights and really enjoyed our stay in this lovely old coaching inn. The location was very good for trips to the coast Holy Island and Bamburgh, also for the National Park and Scottish Border Towns. After eating there on the first night we decided to eat there every night of our stay and thoroughly enjoyed... More

We stayed 4 nights at the traditional pub. The room (#2) was very clean, bed was comfortable. Shower/toilet was a little cramped, but adequate for our purpose. Room was on the 2nd floor with a door to the outside, so access was easy without going through the bar. The food was marvelous, cooked to order by Iain, the proprietor, using... More

We visited the Red Lion twice recently when staying at a nearby cottage. The Red Lion is an old, traditional Inn with plenty of locals coming for an evening drink. The food is delicious, a little more pricey than average pub grub but that is more than reflected in the quality. They use local produce and local businesses where this... More

We stayed nearby in Akeld and the Red Lion was the local pub. On Monday night we popped in and got tipsy on the local guest ale and had fun playing Uno (loudly) and then Spoof (we are all in our late 50s to early 60s). Ordered some food, which was lovely and comes recommended. [tip to the owner. With... More
