We stayed nearby in Akeld and the Red Lion was the local pub. On Monday night we popped in and got tipsy on the local guest ale and had fun playing Uno (loudly) and then Spoof (we are all in our late 50s to early 60s). Ordered some food, which was lovely and comes recommended. [tip to the owner. With... More

Just returned from five nights at the Red Lion, very cosy and welcoming , staff very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the hearty breakfasts, we also dined several nights and can highly recommend the meals particularly the tagliatelle, it was amazing! Our room was clean and comfortable with a huge bed! We had a problem with our car during... More

We stayed for 2 nights B&B which was not long enough. Owner Iain is a fantastic chef. Food menu is not the usual pub grub it is freshly prepared all from local produce delicious, eggs benedict for breakfast. Bedrooms and bathroom are fresh and extremely well kept. I would highly recommend The Red Lion. My visiting American son in law... More

Two of us stayed here for one night with out dog. Room was very clean, with tea and coffee making equipment, en-suite shower. Food was good quality, home made and staff and landlord very friendly. Landlord particularly helpful in making us sandwiches and a flask of tea to take with us when we left. Would recommend.

Enjoyed the meal - Steak Pie and Chips at The Red Lion Milfield on friday evening. The pub was packed, but they still managed to have a table for us and we were not disappointed. Maybe need additional staff at busy times but we were happy. Recommend.

I had 2 fishing friends who were staying here and they raved about both the accommodation and food so much that we had to join them for dinner one evening. They were not lying - Fabulous food (particularly fish) - One of the best meals I have had in a so-called Gastro Pub. This place isn't as pretentious as to... More

This is a great pub for food, prompt and efficiant service, good food, friendly staff. I would recomend to eat here as the food is better than most of the other pubs around wooler. Even the beer was great.

Delicious lunch yesterday, new chef? We really enjoyed good food and great service. Highly recommend for coeliacs, they understand the requirement for gluten free food and have a range of menu options which are GF.

We visited the red lion on two occasions and were very pleased with the service from the staff and especially the food. If you want fresh home cooked food this is the place to visit. The steak and ale pie packs a belly good punch. The beer garden is lovely on a summers day/ evening too.
