I had dinner here with family on a busy Friday night in August and came back to Katie's Bar for Sunday lunch. The food was excellent on both occasions, and a cheery staff coped well with a busy service in both occasions making sure that everyone was well locked after. Special mention must be made of Lorna, who made time... More

The reason I have to write the responses to TripAdvisor comments is that Lorna's is far too modest to acknowledge the praise she gets. It is a huge boost to her and her team to get such a great compliment: they all work hard to look after our guests. It is lovely to get such positive feedback - thank you... More

Visited this lovely hotel as part of a week's stay in Islay and were blown away by the quality of this little hotel. The staff, led and overseen by the hotel manager Lorna are enthusiastic, well turned out and a delight to interact with. ( good for Gaelic lessons if you're interested in trying to understand the local signs !... More

Thank you for such a lovely review. Lorna, along with her staff, has worked really hard to make Bridgend Hotel the place it is and she really appreciates such heartfelt gratitude. Well done with the Gaelic - there are courses on Islay should you want to develop your language skills. We look forward to seeing you back on Islay before... More

My wife and I have stayed at the Bridgend Hotel three times, twice in recent times. Under the present management, the hotel has become first-class. The old-world charm, tasteful decor, lovely garden, dining room and bar lounge all added up to a delightful experience. The restaurant is four- to five-star in my opinion and the menu is local and nicely... More

Thank you for such a fantastic review. I suspect you are the same gentleman who was brought up in Bridgend - without giving too much away! If so, it is lovely to hear from you and I think there are few people who have such a long association with Islay. We have spent a lot of effort improving the Hotel... More

Lorna could not do enough for us, on arrival she knew our names & even the dogs name! She was great with our son, family pet & always had time to speak to us. On top of the beautiful rooms the food was outstanding. All staff were friendly & attentive! Loved our stay here & looking forward to returning soon!... More

Thanks for such a great review. There is no way Lorna could offend the dog by forgetting its name while remembering yours! Come back soon. More

just spent 2 nights here - staff very friendly and hotel comfortable and clean. Restaurant meals were first class, Bar as a great range of whisky's (many Islay ones of course) and fantastic Islay ales. As well as the lounge there is a public bar which has a separate menu ( cheaper but still excellent). No disrespect to our European... More

I would love to say that ALL our staff (like the food they serve) are local but this is not quite true. We do try to reflect all of the best that Islay has to offer and the team are very much part of that experience. I'm really glad you had a good time with us and many thanks for... More

The staff here were so welcoming. We took our little 11 week old baby with us for a small holiday. They found us a travel cot and were really lovely with her. Lovely food, in both the bar and restaurant. You have to book for the restaurant, but lovely steak, lobster and venison. Great log fore in the lounge area... More

I am so glad that you were able to enjoy local produce: the steak is locally sourced, the lobster comes from the seas around Islay and the venison is produced by the Estate. The washing was also done locally! Thanks for a lovely review. More

Ended up eating at the Bridgend Hotel as we were unable to get in at any of the restaurants in Bowmore. Well were we glad, although the dining room was fully booked we were able to get a table in the bar. Great food and best bread that we had tastied in Islay. Service was excellent, and this cannot be... More

I'm not sure if you were glad because you managed to get a table or if you were glad that you ended up at Bridgend; hopefully the latter over the former! Either way, thank you for writing such a complimentary review - we always advise booking. PLEASE can anyone reading this who intends to come this week (Islay Show week)... More

Very comfortable, clean, great food & friendly & helpful staff. Central for exploring Islay. One of the best I have stayed in in Scotland. No mobile reception in Bridgend & wifi poor, but don't let this put you off.

I mentioned in a previous review that we do have wi-fi and if you take your mobile phone out the front door it does work on some networks. But don't come to Islay for the electronic connectivity - come for the scenery, the wildlife, the whisky, the food or just to get away from those wretched gadgets that don't work... More

Welcoming and pleasant - staff well trained and efficient - good mamangement and the food is a delight. In an otherwise unwelcoming place - this was my haven - we were treated as guests and our dog was welcome in the bar too. So we ate there each night. The food is not bar food - it is restaurant food... More

Thank you for this great review. We do indeed have 2 places to eat - Katie's Bar and the Dining Room. I am really sorry that you found some of Islay unwelcoming - that is not its reputation nor is it my experience of the island at all. We like to think that Bridgend Hotel reflects the best that Islay... More

We chose to eat here on our first night on Islay and i'm so glad we did. After looking at the menu earlier in the day when we booked my fiance was slightly dissapointed that the lobster thermadore had been changed to a lobster risotto which he didn't fancy however he chose lamb chump instead which he thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you for such a great review - we are lucky that the Hotel is situated right in the middle of Islay (the heart of Islay as we like to call it) so it is not only convenient for visiting all the distilleries and beaches, it is also the perfect place to have something to eat, walk around the centre...
