We spent a great couple of nights here in January 2016. The hotel has a convenient central location in Islay, a little way outside the main village of Bowmore. It's a handsome building with the downstairs given over to a bar, a cosy lounge with roaring fire and a formal dining room. We stayed in room 5, which was a... More

Thank you for such a lovely review. Islay is a magical place all year round, but I think that there is a special charm during the winter months when you can justifiably nuzzle down next to the fire and appreciate what those Ileachs were up to when they developed the distinctive taste of the island's whisky all those years ago.... From the moment we walked through the door, we couldn't have felt more at home. Our room was really tasteful, with one of the comfiest beds I've ever slept in! The bathroom was basic, but as clean as the rest of the room. The bar/lounge downstairs was fantastic for pre/post dinner drinks. The restaurant is something to behold. Exquisitely decorated,... Thank you for such a lovely review. Lorna has worked really hard to make Bridgend Hotel as welcoming as possible and we have invested a lot in the decoration in recent years - in particular the paintings in the Dining Room that have been carefully selected to reflect a bit of Islay, the sea and general interest for the guests... Four night stay on Oct 2015 whisky tasting tour of all 8 distilleries on Islay. Convenient central location with lovely public gardens nearby with some local artists and island's brewery, All staff very helpful. Good Scottish breakfasts included; dinner served for extra, but chose another local restaurant after same menu two nights in row. Highly recommend it.

Thank you for such a lovely review. I am really pleased that you had a great time on Islay. We do normally change the menu every day so I'm not sure why this was repeated but at least you had a good taste of all that Islay has to offer! More

Stayed here as part of a group and were treated really well for the whole four days. Lorna and the team welcomed us all and we enjoyed the warm lounge and lovely traditional food. The rooms are nicely done, without being over the top. Some overlook the road, but it is very quiet in the night and nothing disturbed us.... More

Thank you for such a great review. You came during a great spell of weather - right now (29 Nov 15) it is time to curl up by the fire with a large dram and ignore the continual blasts of foul weather from the Atlantic. The glorious Indian summer we had on Islay was really welcome fro the farmers and... More

Stopped in for lunch on a cold wet day to find a lovely log fire burning away making Katie's Bar lovely and welcoming and cosy for myself, hubby and dog. Food lovely and served efficiently by lovely staff. Look forward to another visit soon.

When it's cold and wet outside, what better than to settle down to a delicious warming lunch in Katie's Bar. Bring the dog, the family and anyone else who needs to settle down by the fire and relax after some bracing fresh air. Thank you for dropping in - we look forward to seeing you soon. More

We were renting a house on the island for a week to do some serious goose watching - Islay being famous for the migration! - but the weather was atrocious, and the rented house was damp, so we decided to save our health and have a couple of nights in the hotel. We staggered in like drowned rats at the... More

Thank you for such a great review - we are always keen to help people who have had a little misfortune such as your flat tyre. But add that to the force of 'Abigail' and you clearly needed cheering up. You were lovely guests - Lorna and the team really enjoyed having you and we hope you made it back... More

Extremely welcoming hotel featuring log fires in the lounge and dining room and a lovely welcome from manager Lorna and her staff. The bedrooms were extremely comfortable with luxurious finishings. Everything was well planned from the tea tray with locally produced tablet, heated towel rails, controllable thermostats, and the best over bath shower we have come across in any hotel... More

Considering the relatively poor weather we have had lately, it is lovely to escape from the wind and the rain, put your feet up by the fire and settle down to a Botanist. For those reading this who are not familiar with the spirit - this is the gin that is produced by Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay and has won... More

We spent the weekend at this hotel for a wedding and had a fabulous time. Lorna the manager and all the staff were brilliant, always smiling friendly and efficient. The room was spacious and the bed was massive. The hotel is very clean and well furnished. The food was first class, especially the wedding meal. Only complaint would be that... More

I hope that you were able to give all your attention to the wedding, not the Rugby World Cup Final! Thank you for such a great review and I'm more glad that you enjoyed the wedding than I am frustrated by your lack of a TV in the bar. We took the decision to remove the TV a couple of... More

Excellent and friendly service. We felt like we were really good friends with Lorna, who runs the place, right away. They will help you arrange things you need while visiting - tours, restaurant reservations, etc. Excellent room. Comfortable bed. Good restaurant in the Bridgend hotel. There is also a lounge and bar in the hotel that was good to relax... More

Thank you for such a great review. Farming is taken very seriously on the island and the annual herd competition is fiercely fought over as each farmer tries to show he (or she) is better than the other. When not engaged in fierce competition, they are a friendly group of people and I am delighted that you found them to... More

On a 5-day trip in August 2015 to enjoy the delights of Islay, we were a bit late in making bookings but managed to secure a very comfortable double here at the Bridgend Hotel. Thank you for such a lovely review. Yes, the wi-fi is not as good as it should be - this is largely due to the poor connectivity on Islay which is in the process of being improved. However, I hope you didn't come all this way just to connect to the internet! Leave the electronic devices behind and enjoy the... More
