Mattie and Carmel run this cosy hostel and from the moment you book, you're like one of the family. The hostel is bright, spacious and allows you the opportunity to meet lots of tourists from Ireland and abroad. There's a brilliant atmosphere in the hostel and it caters for large groups in dorms. This is brilliant if you want a... More

This is a great hostel in Doolin. It is privately owned so no big faceless corporate owners! The owners, Mattie and Carmel, go above and beyond to make their guests feel welcome. The hostel has a lovely atmosphere. The owners are so knowledgeable about everything in Doolin and the surrounding areas. All questions were answered without hesitation. All of the... More

My son and I stayed here a during our trip to Ireland. This was our favorite hostel from all the places we stayed while in Ireland. Mattie and Carmel make everyone feel at home; additionally, they are very helpful giving tip and trip information. Do not miss the opportunity to watch the slideshow of pictures from the area and the... More

I arrived without reservations and flustered from a day of driving Irish roads. Mattie and Carmen made me feel welcome and found me a room for the night. After a quick dinner with some of the younger guests our host took us on a wild guided hike. Mattie shared his passion for the history of the Burren and the the... More

Carmel and Mattie have created an outstanding place to stay, their hospitality and helpfulness are unmatched. It's the perfect place to hike to the cliffs or to rent a bike from them to visit the Doolin cave. Everything is well taken care of and all facilities are available, the spacious kitchen and the cozy common room have to be mentioned.... More

On the way from Killarney to Bundoran I stayed at the Rainbow Hostel. I arrived around 4pm and as the weather was fantastic, I decided to hike to the Cliffs of Moher from Doolin. Matti who with Carmen, his wife, runs the hostel immediately offered to drive me the 2km to where the coastal path begins. He and his wife... More

We were thrilled to find such gracious hosts with a lovely place. Rainbow Hostel has just the right mix of simple setup with nice amenities. Carmel and Mattie were friendly and helpful, and we could walk down to McGann's for a delicious dinner. They even looked up the ferry times for us to get out to Inishmoor. Grateful to have... More

This place is excellent. Very well set up, with a great kitchen - multiple stoves, basins and plenty of storage room. The bedroom was very comfortable, with an en suite. Carmel and Mattie are also terrific hosts. Carmel helped us out with where to go in The Buren and how to get there - we particularly enjoyed the Buren perfumery... More

I stayed here two years ago and loved it. Nothing has changed. The bus stops outside. Mattie has bicycle hire and Carmen has scones. The rooms are clean and big enough. If you wash your laundry by hand, there is a clothesline outside. There is no market or ATM in town, the nearest is about 7K away, no real problem.... More

Four of us began our first trip to Ireland at Carmel & Mattie's Rainbow Hostel. Our room was in the main house, not the hostel. We were provided with two keys, one to enter the house and one for our room, so we felt quite secure. The room was of ample size, comfortable bed, and ensuite. There were a few... More
