Staying at this hotel was like going back to the 1960's especially as far as the decor was concerned. The room was very small i.e. only one person could walk around the bed at any time. The shower was small (i could get in the shower, but couldn't do much once I was in it). The toilet cistern was noisy... More

We went to the Sunday carvery after a very long journey the day before. The hotel is tired and run down, all the other customers eating the carvery were aged 70+. It wasn't cheap and the service was very poor. We were kept waiting for our drinks which we had ordered for at least half an hour whilst many other... More

Stayed here for 1 night on buisness, first room was obviously part of the hotel that is yet to be renovated, Contacted the ladies in reception asking for an alternative room, Was given a newly furbished room upstairs which was delightful quiet and warm. Ate here at night, food was excellent and good value. My ferry trip was cancelled the... More

Old building in centre of village. Changed hands a few years ago and local owners are gradually improving the facilities. Rooms are not large but adequate, clean and comfortable. Staff are very friendly and helpful and Sunday carvery is very good and popular with locals.

We really didn't know what to expect. This is a tiny town, just beside Thurso and we needed to find a dog friendly hotel, as cheap as possible, near to the ferry to the Orkneys. It could have been awful but it really is not. We have had a warm welcome from Evelyn who appears to be a very hard-working... More

Stayed for 3 nights in September sightseeing in the area. Very handy for John O'Groats, Orkney Islands, Castle of Mey etc. Our room was quite small but was clean and had all the usual requirements, The only downside was the bathroom which was quite small with a shower with a curtain. The food was excellent and the staff very pleasant.... More

This small hotel has recently changed its name and freshened up a bit while keeping all the charm of its literally 'old self'. The rooms are clean and quite adequate and the improved heaters make them substantially more comfortable compared to a few years ago. From the outside it looks almost ancient, but don't let that fool you. The restaurant... More

We have visited this hotel several times on our visits to Caithness and never been disappointed with their weekend carvery. A really good selection of roast meats and nicely cooked & presented vegetables with as many helpings as you can manage, then around 20 different types of desserts beautifully presented for you to try. Nice wines and very friendly staff.... More

This is a very old and out of date Hotel but it is handy for John O'Groats and catching ferry to Orkneys. Needs a lot of updating BUT the food was excellent an compliments to chef. As this area of Scotland is quite small it serves a need not a great choice of Hotels. Staff try very hard and pleasant... More
