We arrived half asleep from an overnight flight and the owner graciously got our room ready early so that we could rest. The room was large and clean with comfortable beds and a beautiful view of the river. The building itself is unique with a bright, spacious dining area and an outdoor deck right along the riverbank. Plenty of parking... More

Located just beside Birr Castle on the banks of the Camcor river, this beautiful family-run guest house offers a relaxing place to stay for anyone visiting Ireland's midlands. The Maltings is a very short walk away from Birr town centre and castle entrance, but is pleasantly quiet in a cul-de-sac with plenty of parking available. All the rooms overlook the... More

We sought out a comfortable and historical B&B in a charming town half way b/t Dublin and Clifden and the Maltings checked the box. All rooms overlook the river and the peaceful bubbly sound of the stream lulled us to sleep. Big rooms, comfy bed and nice bathrooms en suite. They kept the historical touches and added the modern updates.... More

The Maltings in Birr is a wonderful place to stay - location on the river next door to Birr Castle can't be beat. Comfortable rooms and fabulous home-cooked breakfasts - what's not to love? Plenty of parking and easy walking to shopping and pubs. Owner Maeve made us welcome from the minute we got there - highly recommend making this... More

We were lucky to stumble upon this lovely old mill house on the river by the castle. The owners were perfectly hospitable in every way. They quickly produced cake and hot chocolate for my tired boys and fresh coffee for me. The room was large and very comfortable for 3. The rooms have all the privacy of a very good... More

We stayed here for a couple of night, having read Tripadvisor reviews. It was very comfortable, lovely view of the river, quiet location. We were very well looked after, and considering that they had a big family wedding in the Maltings next day, the family were extremely hospitable.

What can I say, the hotel is fantastic great value for money. Maeve makes you feel like you are part of her family from the second you walk through the door, nothing is too much trouble, even offering us a lift to the hotel we were going too for a wedding reception. The views and location are amazing and lying... More

I stayed in the Maltings en route to Derry from Cork by bike and it was the best overnight of the trip. Great location, excellent breakfast and genuine, warm hospitality. I'd recommend the Maltings very highly.

The Maltings is great, site is cool, room clean and big, and sound of river is like a lullaby. The best thing is Maeve herself. Breakfast starts at eight, but when we told her we had to be off at 6:30 am, she offered to get up at six and have food for us. Even hot scones!!!! She gave us... More
