Best afternoon tea by a mile I've tasted in the last decade! Beautiful surroundings, relaxing piano music played by professional pianist, scones tasting like they were baked minutes before, with jam & cream, comfortable sofas. Lovely even on a rainy day, I'll be back! Straffan looks so pretty too, although we hadn't time to stay, but next time...

Lovely staff and atmosphere at this hotel Could not fault food and bedroom beautiful. I believe this hotel does serious amount of weddings my only critic is outside front of entrance door needs to be lifted appearance wise. Maintenance. Good to see the owner present Beautiful hotel will be back No bar open during the day on a Sunday, off... More

Stayed for one night in Barberstown Castle for a Wedding. I was very impressed with the size and standards of the rooms. I stayed in a twin (double and single) and my parents stayed in a Double (four poster bed). The hotel is nice and cozy and small but the rooms are huge. Our room was over looking the courtyard... And terific food...we arrived at 3 and the lunchtime crowd had dispersed..a grand piano held everyones attention as a skilled pianist rolled out a mixture of classical greats...and modern blockbuster theme tunes...it was all very serene...lunch for us was Moroccan lamb burgers and homemade fries and a wonderful choc brownie with whiskey icecream...we leisurely enjoyed the experience chatting and soaking... Attended a family wedding here recently and it couldn't have been more perfect. I cannot agree with other reviewers saying the staff were rude/ill informed, our experience was everyone connected to the hotel was pleasant, attentive and extremely helpful. The wedding itself was perfect, the reception room, wedding room and banquet hall were all beautifully decorated and the food was... More

This is a very characterful hotel . Once owned by Eric Clapton , the house has been developed to become a very original and stylish hotel , which seems to have cornered the wedding market . Situated very close to the K Club of Ryder Cup fame , I think the hotel knows it has to keep standards very high... More

My sister had her wedding here this weekend and although the wedding itself was beautiful the owner of the hotel really lets the place down. We stayed the night before the wedding and their were 3 children (4,5 &6) in our party who were made to feel very unwelcome by the owner. They were very well behaved but still the... More

Was at a wedding last Thursday in Barberstown castle, have to say the food was amazing, best i've ever had at a wedding and the setting, grounds were top notch, but the selection of drink and servise in the bar was shocking, they ran out of larger the night before the wedding and on the day of the wedding had... My wife and I stayed here for three nights while attending a local wedding. We booked through an online site so the price was competitive. Our room was lovely, complete with four poster bed and the bathroom was well appointed. The room had a trouser press and a hair dryer but, oddly, no tea making facility. Perhaps this is a... More

We stayed last weekend and found the hotel very poor and missing a lot of important elements. On arriving the only source of food was found at the tea-rooms, no sandwiches at all and only option a scone and coffee of which was way to expensive. The bar was poorly stocked with a lot of basic beers missing, forcing us... More
