We stayed here for a night and we loved it. The hotel is so cosy and clean and the staff are very accommodating. We sat near the fire in the bar with a few pints of Guinness (which were very good) and both had the fish and chips (delicious!). Breakfast the next morning was also really good. Mary, the manager is so nice too. We definitely recommend a trip out to Tory to stay here.

We stayed for one night at the end of August and were extremely happy with the hotel and the accommodation. The charm of the hotel is that it is so remote so they are totally dependent on importing everything from the mainland. It seems that the island has become a bird sanctuary and a place to learn the Irish language. It is a haven for hill walkers. Don't expect local food produce, but having said that, we had no problem with the food served in the hotel. Our room was very clean, well aired and cosy. Breakfast was lovely. We found the woman who runs the hotel with binoculars watching the ferry cross over from the mainland in a fairly rough sea. The Hotel opens for the summer only and was about to close for the winter. However, I am sure that other B & B accommodation is available at other times of the year. We travelled across to the island when Met Eireann (National Weather Forecast) were issuing Small Craft Warnings but the ferry was well able for this weather and we felt totally safe and were exhilarated by the crossing. We were met by the King on the pier and he was very supportive of my hopeless attempt at speaking Irish (Gaelic). The island is an extraordinary place and well worth staying over for at least one night in order to see the entire island. It was an experience we will never forget.

I had a lovely week here with friends. The family who run the hotel are very friendly. The food is great and the prices are very reasonable. Tory is a magical place, and makes all visitors welcome. The cliffs and seabirds are amazing. Highly recommended for a visit.

Meal fit for a King. Great choice of starters, ample portions. Superb sea bass beautifully presented. Wonderful views of Donegal Northern Hills & Shoreline. Great service and finished off with a generous helping of traditional music.

Really lovely stay in this hotel, sadly cut short as boat didn't run as planned. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were large, clean and very comfortable. We had a birthday celebration on the island and the staff were so accommodating, couldn't do enough to help us. Food was yummy! Evening entertainment in the hotel was also very good. A lovely place to stay and a really nice island to visit, would highly recommend!

We had a fantastic trip to Tory Island (April, 2017), the ferry was a unique experience and the hotel was very nice, clean, warm and comfortable. The owners greeted us on the ferry when leaving the mainland and were there to help with anything we needed during our stay. All nine of us had a blast, we hired the local bus to tour the island and had just enough time to explore. I would highly recommend staying at the hotel, it was very reasonably priced and the food was excellent. We will be back for a longer stay soon. Thanks again to the Doherty family for keeping us.

"camremany" has put most of the good spots in his review, so I'll try to add... To begin with - it was very easy to book the room - you can do it on the phone ahead - We booked it just before we booked the ferry. We were afraid that the sea will be too rough. It looked just fine - so at 4:00 pm we called and made sure that they have rooms. The ride was wonderful - we had a calm sea and the kids enjoyed the ride. The hotel is just across the harbour - 50 secods walk from the boat... The hotel seams to be run by a family - very nice people. We booked a table for the dinner - TIP - if you book a room - book a table for dinner - i is a small place, and very wisely - they make sure the tables are booked - so the dinning room is not too full - and so they can give a good service. after getting the room, we spent the time outside - walking the island - we had exelent weather and it was a crime not to take the advantage... Dinner was great - the table was set like a fancy restaurant - 2 sets of cutlry, napkin... the lot. TIP - go for the fish - the kids food was great, the salmon was good, the soda bread was the best I ever had. but... the steak was ... iriah - too well done and not really tasty... stick to the sea - fish. prices were very resonble - 2 adults, 3 kids, a glass of wine, 2 starters and ae sh pint of beer - 66 euro - a nice surprise. the beds were very comfartble. The water in the shower were very hot - heaven. There is a pub in the hotel, there is a pool table and a nice sitting area in the entrance - both - the sitting area and the hotel's restarant are facing the ocean. The hotel has a compresor - for those who want to dive (but you'll have to find a way to get to the diving sites byyourself...). Breakfast was great - fresh orange juice, fresh toasts. full Irish breakfast and.... planty of cereals for the kids (or the kids in h heart). After checkout you can leave your lugage there and take a walk around. After all - you'll be surprised that the hotel charges like a b.b - 40 euro per adult and half price for kids - the small ones are free. A wonderful thing for familys - they have a family room - 2 rooms with adjoining door - and the price is ridiculus.... just regular by people (5 people - 2 rooms - 120euro for b.b.....). the only cons we have: thre only working t.v was in the kids room - somethinut theyg to do with "connecting them.." - b said it will be done during the year. the room keys are old and hard to use and we couldnt get an extra blanket (there are thinner ones - extra in the room, but we couldnt get another one). The hotel looks very clean, so were the rooms. the carpets seemed to be new. The view from the room that we had (208, 209) was of the land - nothing intersting - but make sure that your room is not close to the lobby - where they play loud music, up to the late hours... The place is very recomended and we definatly will go back. Regarding the ferry - after many posts against them, I have to say - they were great - both courtesy and profesionly - they were on time and very nice. I've seen them help 2 tourists to load and unload their bicycles and helped everyone with their equipment. The ones going out early and afternoon are big and have place inside - cover from the rain and splash... the one at noon - is smaller (because of the low tide and not because of saving....)but that one also has some place with cover. The sea was very calm - just some small waves - for the kids it was like running a small rollercoaster... on the way back - the 2 big ones insisted on riding at the front (despite the warninigs from the crew) and they were soaked... but enjoyed every minute of it.

We recently had a great couple of days on the fabulous Tory Island - not be missed. The hotel has spacious, clean and comfortable rooms with good bathrooms. It is family run and they go out of their way to keep their guests happy. The food in the bar is good and in the restaurant is is excellent. All in all it made for a memorable experience.

I've been going to Tory Island for 16 years and have had good and not so good experiences at the hotel . However Under new management The Tory Island Hotel is a wonderful experience . All the rooms are remodeled, the beds, the drapes the towels all new crisp and clean. Sean and Patricia are warm and generous hosts. And the food! The food is better than anyplace I've been on the mainland. I had the Tory Pollock one night and it was both juicy and flaky, perfectly done. The Chicken Kiev was superb and the garlic potatoes were worth going back for alone! Don't forget that the chef's speciality is desert. I had started to look for other accommodations as a result of my experiences under the old management but I will be staying at the hotel from now on and in fact will all the more look forward to my trip to this incredible and mystical island. Thank you Sean and Patricia.

I fulfilled a long held ambition to travel to Tory Island at Easter. Before going I had numerous negative comments but I am glad to report my experience was totally positive. Getting there - I got the boat from Magheroarty. Not the most inviting looking mode of transport but was an important integral part of the whole Tory experience. I would advise good footwear and not to be expecting anything too fancy. There were some continentals onboard and they really enjoyed it. This was supposed to be a calm day but there was a gentle swell and on a few occasions passengers got splashed, so be careful lol. The trip across is 45 minutes. I booked in to the Hotel, its looking out over the harbour and was shown to my room. I was surprised at the standard. Because of it being on an island I had assumed the standard would be low but I was totally wrong. It was immaculately clean and with an en-suite bathroom was wonderfully appointed. I would have to say though that the choice of TV channels was very limited and maybe an investment in Sky might be a good addition. The bar is the focal point of the hotel. The barman/manager was on duty and I would have to say he made us all feel most welcome. Being of an inquisitive nature I asked all about the island and where to go etc. Following his advice we went walking. The best way to see the island is on foot. Turn right coming out of the hotel and follow the road towards the lighthouse. It is a lovely walk out to the unmanned lighthouse. But, it is only preparation for one of the most amazing pieces of scenery in Ireland you are ever likely to come upon. Firstly, I would recommend that one follows the signs out to the Commonwealth Graves. I would doubt if there is a more magnificent war grave setting in the world. The view is magnificent! Then walk back by the old road, up towards the former, now dilapidated, Lloyds building. Head up towards the modern looking building on a headland. Once again the view is amazing from here. Seemingly this is the former residence of a world renowned artist, the view would inspire greatness in anyone. As you walk on you discover a little cove which is idyllic before heading on back towards the village. Make sure, unlike me, that you have lots of space for photos on your camera, you'll be using it a lot. It takes at least 2 hours to walk round this area. Following a refreshing drink in the bar we headed to see the other half of the island. What we had seen in the first half only was an appetiser for what we were to encounter next. We visited the local quaint church followed by the island shop. Then we walked along the road. This part was uninviting at first. There are "stations of the cross" on the roadside which was very nice. Then we walked up a lane to our left after the dump to the cliff edge. The unspoilt view here was amazing. I would say though, this area is very undeveloped and the cliff edges are unprotected so be very careful if its windy. We walked around the cliff edge for sun distance. I was astounded when we happened across a little low area with a stony beach on both sides of us. It was like a little oasis, calm and relaxing, you felt as if you were in a totally different world. I have to admit I was getting tired at this stage and the prospect of walking to the top of the headland in front was just too much so we walked down towards the right towards a more inhabited part of the island. We happened across the old harbour. It was amazing. While there we met up with some canoeists who had canoed round the island that day and they spoke of the experience as being one of the best in their life. We met these people later that night and it transpired that they had actually canoed over from the mainland the previous day. We walked back eventually to the hotel. We chatted to the wife of the owner of the hotel who was most interesting. She really made you feel at home and it was very obvious that her heart really lay in Tory Island. We booked dinner for 7pm. I have to be honest and say my expectations were not very high because I assumed that it being on an island all would be frozen. I would have to say a was very pleasantly surprised. The food was beautiful. Yes, there menus wasn't overly extensive but they were upfront and told me this was because they only served fresh food and anyway, there was plenty of choice for all in the group. Everything was very tasty and the servings were ample. Afterwards, we retired to the bar. There we met up with the "King of Tory", Patsy Dan. I felt like I was coming to Tory for years, such was the welcome he extended to everyone. Having played a little music and told a few stories he showed us some of the paintings he had done. They weren't my cup of tea, but seemingly this style is very well known in art circles. After he had gone I met up again with the manager. I would have to say that the staff of the hotel are among the most friendly and genuine staff I have ever had the pleasure to meet up with. Breakfast was very nice the following morning. Having had a great night's sleep in a very comfortable bed, I was bright and fresh for continuing my journey round Donegal. I am led to believe that the stories about the bar never closing is correct lol We got the boat off in the morning leaving behind an amazing experience. Tory and the Tory Island Hotel are a unique experience that I would recommend to anyone.
