The Green Gate B&B is placed in a fantastic location with views that changed every minute. The rooms were cosy and tucked away from every day life - perfect for a much needed getaway! Paula made the experience a home away from home by her extremely helpful and relaxed personality - with breakfast, tea/coffee, toast and a night cap available... More

What a lovely place to stay, everything is there to have a break from everything you want/need to take a break from, like anytime breakfast, ashtrays in the bedrooms, super cosy inside, breathtaking views only interrupted by an ancient French car and an antique schooldesk. Most of all, the hospitality from Paula Mc Mullan is second to none. There is... More

The adventure starts as you approach Ardara and begin to see discreet signs in the shape of arrows with an image of a green gate. Wonderful and charming. When at the entrance of the lane, where the infamous Green Gate hangs in all it's glory, there is a real air of mystery as you drive over the cattle grid and... More

But also one of my favorite places, period. The location is second to none, the room is lovingly restored and extremely comfortable, and the views are truly breathtaking. My wife and I rented a room for our second wedding anniversary, and I can't imagine a more perfect celebration. We watched the sunset over a beautiful Donegal beach from our room,... More

Having read the hand-written and intriguing "visitors comments" on the GreenGate.eu website about the passionate and unorthodox "French-philosopher-literature-music-lover-turned-Irish-sheep-hillside-Donegal-coast-dweller" Paul Chatinaud, we booked a three-night stay in the largest room, i.e. the converted hay barn. Upon arrival up the narrow flower-lined lane before dusk, at 10pm, we (including our 19 year old son) were greeted by "Paula", not "Paul" (who had... More

This is a gem of a place. Very unique and quirky amongst the bland b&bs and hotels. Run by the lovely Paula and able assisted by her niece Poppy. Totally welcoming and casual. Tea and chats on arrival and breakfast with a turf fire and super coffee. Really recommend it! Full of charm and history. Also Nancy Hands pub in... More

Thanks so much for your review Sheila. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your cycle around Ireland. Poppy was very happy to see her name mentioned. Since your visit we have had a new heating system installed which greatly improves the water pressure. The rabbits are out in full force as is the cuckoo and there are lots of... More

I went with a friend last year in July and like it a lot. Especially the brawn water. The pit in the fire place in the summer. You are outside of time in Green Gate. I wish I could stay there more :))))

Stayed 2 nights with my wife in September. Whilst this may be a highly acclaimed B&B, it is not for anyone looking for all mod cons or even many mod cons. There is certainly a number of positives - Paul is a charming and very helpful host, the location is very peaceful and private and the views are excellent. However... More

Dear dyingkangaroo Thank you for your review from last year. The Green Gate is under new management since the sad and untimely passing of Paul Chatenoud. I am taking the opportunity to randomly select and answer some reviews. I appreciate your view that the green gate may not be for everyone. Yes the main cottage was Pauls home and the... More

The position of this B & B can be quite stunning - the views and general tranquility. However - it is high up and on the West of Ireland so is wet and 'in cloud' quite often. This made our room damp and the bedclothes damp. The heating system is very old, difficult to adjust and inadequate. The conversion from... More

It is now 8 years since I went to The Green Gate for the first time and I still get excited at each chance to go back. I love the atmosphere, the view and of course Paul who created this magical place. I can't wait to go back as soon as possible.
