The title really says it all, but I'll elaborate. If you really want a magnificent experience in one of the most beautiful and remote parts of Ireland, don't mind falling off the grid (no Internet, no TV, though my mobile worked fine) and If you can convince Paul you're worthy of a stay, the Green Gate is for you. Let's... more

If you want uniform sanitary ware and nameless faceless service, then go and stay in a Holiday Inn. If you want a truly beautiful, rustic and personal experience in a place unrivaled in its beauty, visit the Green Gate. We visited in mid Winter and while my room was chilly, my sister's was lovely and cosy. The water is peaty... more

I stayed here for one night with my girlfriend, after she had discovered the Green Gate in The Lonely Planet Guide, and presumed correctly that I would love it. The setting is the definition of picturesque- the thatched ensuite barns are set on lawns on the side of a hill with an uninterrupted view of the coastline. The rooms are... more

First, I must say that Paul was most pleasant and a gracious host. With that being said, I can honestly say to any families considering staying here: BEWARE!! it is like camping with a thatched roof. It has no common areas for reading/relaxing, and the amenities were.....limited at best. Yes, it is damp (but so is all of Ireland!), and... more

I arrived at the Green Gate and met my host Paul. I went down to town to get dinner and he showed up at the place. I decided to leave, he then decided to leave. When we returned to the Green Gate Paul told me to go to the edge of the parking lot and look at the view. He... more

I tried to manage my expectations having read so many amazing reviews but the little cottages at the top of the world and Paul's discrete but attentive hospitality did not disappoint - my cousin and I fell in love with the place. Paul is a true artist in the broadest sense of the word. The cottages have been beautifully done... more

My girlfriend and i have just returned from donegal, where we discovered an ireland that we could only have imagined but now have found. A place you wish could be kept a secret but you have to tell everyone. The Green Gate does not lie about what it is, rural, idyllic and uncomplicated. Paul was very welcoming and warm, a... more

Heading up the steep driveway to Green Gate, navigating through a canyon of flowers, you get the feeling you're heading for something special. We were lucky enough to arrive before sunset and the view was gorgeous. You are on your own private hilltop surround by the countryside of Ardara. We identified ourselves as Americans and were not turned away -... more

I first read about this "best b&b in ireland" last year on an Aer Lingus magazine when I was holidaying in Dublin. Now I live in Sligo and have always wanted to see it for myself. My husband and I just got back yesterday fro Pauls amazing green gate and we both feel very refreshed and had a fab time.... more

I meant to review this last year, when we had just got back home, but thought it would get so many good reviews that it didn't matter. Now I see that some people still prefer Travel-lodge to a little piece of heaven. So let's be clear, if you want packets of shampoo in twee little vases and a room which... more
