We found out about this place by accident after my wife visited the local hairdresser. She highly recommended it and she wasn't wrong. We were staying in Ardara for a weeks holiday and were looking to sample the local restaurants. I have to say this was by far the best we tried. James who looked after us and another lady... More

We stayed in a cottage that overlooked Woodhill House in early July and walked down on a rainy evening to dine. It was well worth the effort. A very warm welcome awaited us and the food was excellent. The memory of quail and monkfish helped me climb the hill back to our cottage. We had hoped to return to try... More

I was so pleasantly surprised at the standard of the rooms having only used the restaurant in the past. Rooms are so comfortable, great size bathroom and lovely beds with tea/coffee making facility and bottled Ballygowan water.Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing, clearly new chef and really gourmet dishes. Nothing was too much trouble as had... More

I went for the first time to Donegal to meet up with family from the United States and Dublin, but there being no room in their rented cottage I stayed at the Woodhill guest house. It is absolutely lovely there: the welcome, the room and its facilities, the terrific food which was perfect. A lovely, happy experience. Do go! A... More

We were made very welcome at Woodhill House by John back in April.Had my mum for a wee break to Ireland landing at carrickfin travelling to Connemara, thought it better we stay overnight around Donegal. Ardara was our choice and what a good choice we made. The people of Ardara very welcoming and friendly. John accommodated us at short notice... More

This is a lovely old house with big rooms & beautiful views. The room had tea & coffee making , TV & free wi-fi. It was very quiet as it's in the country but not too far away to drive to town for dinner. Safe parking for vehicles. Breakfast was great & the hosts (father & son) were wonderful.

We were disappointed with the room which was large however it was in need of modernisation. Peeling wallpaper, rusty radiator, stains on the carpets. The bathroom was modernised but the toilet seat was twisted, the shaver socket didn't work and the sink tap was loose! Breakfast was reasonable. The highlight was the evening meal which was the best food we... More

My wife had visited the bar here last year, and wanted to return for a long weekend. This is fulfilled her wishes, and we had a great stay in a 'Garden Room' with a balcony overlooking the lovely walled garden and views of Glengesh Pass. On the first night we ate in, and the quality and service of the food... More

We loved Woodhill House. The room was spacious, the bath large and clean, and we were able to walk out into the beautiful garden from our room. No steps [we had the handicapped accessible room on the ground floor]. John, our host, couldn't have been more helpful. Stay here when you are visiting Ardara--itself a wonderful spot.

We wanted somewhere quiet, but nice to celebrate a birthday. We thought about Westport or Galway, but settled for somewhere nearer home - we were not disappointed. Woodhill House is a beautiful old mansion at the top of a valley outside Ardara. It is steeped in history, from the old cannon lying in the garden in front of the entrance,... More
