This was a pleasant and quiet retreat in a nice location however fell a victim of the recession and closed its doors. It is now in private ownership and may be returned to its original role as a large family home and estate.

We stayed in one of the cottages and had the most wonderful weekend. The beach was fabulous , we played tennis, had superb local food in great restaurants and had long walks with the best scenery. Everything is accessible and this enhances what is a lovely place !

We stayed here for one night recently and had dinner as well. Our room was a good size, but very warm despite having the windows open. The bedding was quite old, they are still using blankets and the bed cover was a bit grotty. I was annoyed that there was no bottled water in the room, considering that the tap... More

We stayed here for four nights and really enjoyed it. It's a quiet place, about 10 rooms. There's not a lot happens at the hotel, so it will suit those who want quiet and relaxation, but may disappoint people who want something a bit livelier. Dinner is served in the evening, and you can order drinks in the lounge, but... More

This hotel is good for the soul - peaceful, classy and warm. The grounds are fabulous with views through the trees to the beach with the sea and mountains beyond. Rathmullan is a lovely spot. We stayed at the hotel one night and would have stayed several if we could have done. Thoroughly recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay in Fort Royal. The gardens are gorgeous, the sense of peace abounds. The hotel has ideal access to the beach, right at the end of the garden. The view from our room was splendid. Many thanks to Tim and the excellent staff. Looking forward to going back and bringing the family!

Spent the June Bank Holiday weekend in Fort Royal. Access to the beach and the grounds were lovely. Loved it, very relaxing and the food was great. Cannot wait to return.

Had a super week at the Fort Royal staying in the self catering cottage within the hotel grounds, but had two gorgeous meals in the restaurant. The weather was so kind to us! Everyone very friendly - as usual! Soooooo relaxing and peaceful - just what was needed to recharge our batteries - here's hoping we will have many more... More

Fort Royal is a lovely old house sitting on the edge of the pretty village of Rathmullan. I visited Fort Royal many years ago and enjoyed my stay so me and my wife decided to return but we were left very disappointed. I feel that it is now living off past glories as the hotel and staff are not as... More

As the manager of a small hotel I know virtually every guests name and when they stayed. I am totally convinced that this reviewer did not stay with us at all. I am assuming that they are related to a previous false reviewer from 28th Aug 2010 who described our hotel with a very similar review. Quite why they want... More
