Just back from a very enjoyable stay at the Royal Hotel. We stayed here as a family for 3 nights. On arrival the reception area was clean and welcoming. However when we were allocated our room we were very disappointed. My husband went back down to reception and spoke to the duty manager called Ashraf. He was courteous and very... More

The hotel must have been Royal once in the 30's,decor not changed since, bedding unclean and dust all around. As this booking was short notice we paid over the odds which we should have paid nothing as this has been the most terrible hotel we have ever stayed, staff in restaurant threw the food at you, this was the only thing... We booked into this hotel for two nights but had to leave after one night. The room was disgusting with the wallpaper peeling off the wall, the shower curtain was badly moulded and the spring was actually sticking out of the mattress. When we complained the reception staff were sympathetic but needed the managers permission to refund us, the manager... More

The hotel definitely needs to be refurbished. The rooms where clean but very old fashioned. The hotel staff where great. Anything we asked them for they provided. We also had a meal here which was tasty but there was not much choice on the menu (this could be because we booked as part of a package)

this hotel was far from Royal!!! The staff were uninterested, we had to walk miles to the room up a series of steps. The lift looked and sounded like it should have been condemned. We were in a family room which was over noisy compressors (great for keeping kids awake all night) and smelt of over cooked food. The carpet was... More

The whole Hotel inside and outside was dirty dated and held together with paint, the carpets in the bedrooms were filthy and the toilet was disgusting and ran all night. No soap or shower gel were provided in bathroom, walls and curtains were filthy, family rooms are at the bottom of a very long corridor with four or five sets... More

We stayed here for 4 nights for the Bank Holiday Weekend August 2014. The Hotel is very tired looking from the outside and needs a fresh coat of Paint. Our Bedroom carpet was dirty and badly needs to be changed or at least an industrial cleaning job to be done on it. There was no shower gel or shampoo supplied... More

From one or two Trip-Advisor rieviews, I thouht we were facing into the horrors of hell! All in all, this is a pleasant if somewhat dated hotel. The staff are very friendly and the food is excellent. Having stayed in three hotels in this town in recent years, I would be inclined to put this one at the top. It... More

The two young women at reception when we arrived were friendly enough, although for the next two days (we stayed three nights), absolutely no-one from reception, including the two on duty when we arrived, even looked up to speak, smile or even nod when we passed by. I found that odd, not to mention rude. The room would have been... More
