How can it be? I've been hostelling world-wide for over 25 years now but I've never seen such a place. Yes, the location is great. Yes, it's a historical building... BUT... And this is a MAJOR "but"... It once upon a time was "gas lit" but now they're using butagaz stuff, depending on who's staying there and how much they care about safety... I'm sorry, but I narrowly escaped a fire at my own place only less than one month before (short circuit) and simply wanted to RUN AWAY. Windows recently seemed to (sort of) having been painted but means they don't open anymore. Fire alarms are out of order, toilets doors are broken, celling is collapsing (above the gas lamps) in the female toilets, etc. etc...The warden's place is a complete mess and we were charged 2 more euros per person for not having brought our own bed sheets, which wasn't, either, written on the website.
