I found this place a bit randomly online and saw they had the neatest loft room available. Unique with nooks and crannies and only 55euro a night! They couldn't have been nicer and they had a full spread at breakfast too. Best part: I left a pair of earrings on the nightstand by accident. I asked if they would be... More

I've been here for two weeks, the owners are very kind and the room was nice. It's very close to the best restaurant and to Sean bar (the oldest pur in Ireland). It has no parking, but I did not have trouble to find parking around it. There's not elevator, but who cares? The B&B looks strange when you just... More

What a great discovery! We stayed two nights in the Loft room, very spacious for three people. The Bastion is very eclectic with lots of character. Vinnie and Anthony made us feel instantly welcome. The breakfast was quite a feast with a great selection of fruit, breads, cheeses, yogurt and cereal...more than we could possibly enjoy. Thank you for a... More

Stayed for 1 night with a friend as it was cheaper than getting a taxi to and from athlone. lovely clean room. it is an old building with lots of quirky things on display everywhere. the staff were very friendly and although we did not pay for breakfast it was great to be able to make our own coffee before... I spent one night in a single room in the Bastion. The b&b is around a five minute walk from the centre of Athlone which is across the river. Its located beside the castle and has many excellent restaurants and pubs in the immediate vicinity. My room was very warm, despite the cold weather outside and was comfortable. The service... More

Pleasantly surprised by this place after booking mainly due to the cheap price (40Euros for a Friday stay). Great location right in the town centre, near bars and restaurants. Charming place with lots of nooks and crannies, and relics/books around the corridors and rooms. No TV, radio or desk in my room, but not too bothered by that. Continental breakfast... More

Stayed here for 1 night recently, our room was absolutely freezing...there were 2 heaters in there but made no difference whatsoever! The room itself was fab though, really different. Host was friendly, however going around knocking on everyone's door at 10:30am the following morning was not appreciated! (11am was check out time) No cooked breakfast available, only continental. Very cheap,... More

I stayed here the night before the Athlone 3/4 marathon and the staff where fantastic, they put me in a quiet room so I could get a great night sleep. Which I did. There was also a wonderful spread for breakfast that would suit all tastes. The B&B is unique and quirky but is also homely and comforting with a... More

I didn't know that Athlone was so multicultural. Bastion B&B is run by two men, possibly brothers, maybe? The house is old and a little creaky, but the decorations and love that go into it make it so unique. You get the impression that every piece of art was hand picked. You can buy "Bog Buddies" here - dried pieces... More

This place was fantastic! We stayed in the Long Loft Room and it was just as quirky and fun as it appears on the website. The beds are a bit IKEAish for my taste, but were comfy nonetheless and the continental breakfast was delicious. I knew nothing of Athlone, but it was a convenient place to stop and I'm so... More
