The b&b is absolutely georgeous, set very central and easy walking distance to the various pubs and restaurants. We also have the studio appartment across the room as we were a large party. Anthony and Vinny are very helpful and the morning that we left they helped us re do our itinery. Well worth staying. more

i booked this b&b for a reunion with a group of old friends. i had heard about it but never stayed there before. i have stayed in many hotels and b&b's all around ireland and throughout the world, and have always preferred the 'personal feel' of b&b's and have to say that the bastion b&b is quite simply one of... more

We spent one night at The Bastion and I definitely wouldn't have minded spending many more... in the attic quad. The house is very personally decorated and full of the most extraordinary plants; we loved all the details. We were very warmly welcomed by a man whose name I have forgotten, and Blanka, 'Blanche', took care of us the next... more

We stayed at The Bastion one night and thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Athlone. Anthony greeted us and showed us to our rooms. We had a room with a double bed and a single bed, even though there were only two of us, so it was quite roomy. The bathroom was very small, but clean. The beds, linens, rooms were... more

A great little B&B in the heart of the Left Bank in Athlone. Its all very higgelty piggelty which adds to the charm and has a large sitting area/breakfast room. We were in a family with a double and a single. Plenty of room for short stays but the ensuit is almost a closet. Nic and clean with great linen. more

I thoroughly enjoyed Bastion B&B. The location is fantastic - walking distance to everything - great restaurants, the castle and don't forget Sean's Bar, the oldest pub in the world! Athlone is a wonderful place. Anthony let us in and showed us around and we got the best room (one with a loft-type area and a small patio). The rooms... more

This little gem of a place is cozy, charming and eclectic all at once. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The breakfast is one of the best continental spreads around and the staff was amazing! Vinny and Jaqueline were very gracious and helpful. All of that combined with the location make it the perfect place and I am highly... more

Bastion B&B is centrally located in Athlone, in a very interesting building. Our room was very small, with barely any space to put our bags down, but was very clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast buffet in the morning was good with some interesting options (although don't come here is you want a full Irish as there is no cooked... more

Now, you know how it is when you read about a place being "wonderful". You can either find it utterly disappionting, or find that the good words are all true. The Bastion is WONDERFUL! Crisp, clean rooms with comfy beds, quirky baths and lovley decorations, in a house that is welcoming and intriguing. I almost wished it had rained more... more

Just returned from a fun one night stay at the Bastion B&B. This B&B, on the "Left Bank" of Athlone, provided my daughter and myself a charming experience. The buiding is a maze of winding stairs, diverse textures, woods, glass blocks, colored tiles, alcoves, fresh clean bedrooms and a plant filled kitchen/dining. We booked the most awesome room - with... more
