The Irish staff at this hotel were very friendly, efficient and responsive to guest requirements. They really make the establishment. The quality of the rooms and food were a little dated and could use improvement, but were more than adequate and cost were good value. Would be happy to stay at the hotel in the future. more

I was on a family trip with son interested in surfing. We had the misfortune to book 3 days in this ghastly hotel. The following are some of the issues I encountered: Unfriendly and downright hostile staff.Leisure centre in poor condition.Food mediocre. Entire building rundown. Rooms woeful. One star would be too much for this place. How it managed 4 stars is... more

This was the 12th visit to The Great Northern and yet again thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I have yet to find the staff rude or arrogant, I can only believe that the customers were rude and arrogant to them. From what I understand, the rooms are gradually being re-furbished and non smokers will now be pleased to know, smoking is... more

Spent a few days at the Great Northern Oct 09 with two kids and 1 infant . All the staff were polite, helpful and friendly. An old fashioned hotel with yale keys to the bedroom doors, unusual but nice. The family room was bright, very clean, very warm and spacious with old style decor and furnishings, (nice) . The food... more

Staff were always friendly and helpfull. (Only downside is I put on half a stone). This was our groups second visit to... more

The decoration in the rooms was from the sixties. The curtains would not close. Found it difficult to find a seat in the lounge that was not torn, stained, or damaged in one form or another; the carpet was filthy, sticky, and stained. A band was playing the night that we stayed, and kept us awake, the room was not... more

We spent 2 weeks travelling around Ireland instead of heading to the Sun..... Stayed with my husband and our 2yr old son. Checked in with no problems and headed to our room which was on the ground floor thank god to an extent. When I walked into the room I couldn't believe how old fashioned it was. Had the first... more
