I have always been sceptical of Trip Advisor the reason being, the description, which some reviewers give are so far from reality it beggars belief one wonders who is writing the review and for what reason!! So here is my verdict on a trip to Kerry this year. On a lovely Saturday in October we decided to go to Kenmare.... more

The British Prime Minister who signed the treaty giving the US it's independence was born here. The character of the house mixes 18th century finesse with cheery modernity and the place is colourful and tasteful. The breakfasts are to die for - the lady of the house is one of Ireland's best cooks. The welcome is fantastic - we got... more

My wife and I stayed 3 nights at Shelburne Lodge, enjoying our stay so much that we extended our original stay from 2 to 3 nights. We were greeted warmly and offered tea upon our arrival. Our room was upstairs in the coach house, separate from the main part of the Lodge, and it offered a king size bed and... more

The Shelburne Lodge is a charming B&B in the Irish countryside. It can be a challenge to find since it doesn’t really have an address, but it’s actually conveniently located just a few blocks from the adorable downtown area. My room was a good size with a wonderful bathroom. It’s not a 5-star resort/spa – it’s a characteristic B&B that’s... more

Of the nine places my husband and I stayed during our recent trip through Ireland, this was our least favorite. Maybe we just got unlucky but our room was extremely small (just enough for the bed, 2 small side tables and a TV set from the 1970's) and tired looking. We intentionally stayed out for dinner longer than necessary because... more

Just back from Kenmare after an excellent weekend. Stayed at the Shelburne Lodge, which is a beautifully restored house in excuisite grounds. The owners, Maura and Tom are fantastic hosts, friendly and helpful. Maura is an exceptional chef and you will not find a better breakfast in Ireland, I can promise you that. I personally loved the antique feel of... more

If you are looking for a quite little hideaway (but still just 5mins brisk walk from Kenmare town) it is perfect. A beautiful house and accommodation, great breakfast menu - give yourself plenty of time in the morning to enjoy it. We will be back again. more

Lovely B&B

Great B&B. Easy to walk to Kenmare from. Lovely old bedroom with modern bathroom. Tea on arrival, sensational breakfast, nice areas to relax in. Reasonable price given it's way above the usual B&B quality. more

We arrived and a friend of the owners welcomed us.She made a reservation for us at a local restaurant but left us on our own. We had no idea how to get to the restaurant and the phones in our rooms did not work. People have raved about the rooms (antiques etc.) but we found things a little shabby. The... more
