This place has the best scenery in NZ. The rooms are clean and cosy. There is a great little bar with cold beer and a restaurant with home cooked food. Try the lamb shanks. There are jet boats, a plane and helicopter. Ideal for ornothoigists and trampers. Will definately be back!

People always say that NZ has friendly locals, but here it was not the case. We came to this place because it was raining a lot and we couldn´t continue the trip that way. The food they serve at the restaurant is ok. Except for a lovely young couple that works there, everyone was very unfriendly and rude. If you... More

A great stay in a wonderful area. We had a cabin with no facilities but showers and kitchen were close by. The beds were comfortable and we met some guys from Invercargill, a Dutch man, a young backpacker from Seattle and 2 French girls who all shared their food in the communal kitchen so made our stay really memorable. As... More

We stayed in an A frame bungalow. It was clean and comfortable with plenty of space, a good shower and comfortable bed. The bungalows were nicely spaced so you had lots of privacy. Great food in the cafe and bar. The location is really beautiful and probably the most beautiful place out of more than 10 places we stayed while... More

We stayed overnight on the way from Queenstown to Franz Josef in an ensuite cabin. The service on check-in at the cafe was friendly enough. The cabin was a decent size and nestled amongst the trees out the back although the front faces the main driveway so there isn't much privacy unless all the blinds are drawn down. The cabin interior... More

We stayed in an ensuite cabin and it was great. Lots of room, good kitchenette and decent bathroom with another great view. The food at the lodge was fine...good basic fare and good service. Internet is terrible...expensive and only available in the lodge so don't expect to catch up on posting photos or email during your stay. Laundry facilities weren't... More

This place might not be everyone's cup of tea. But if you like middle of nowhere places it is perfect - sitting on the alpine boundary between the south island west and east coast with all the anticipation of the great drive ahead regardless of which direction you are heading in (assuming one is driving of course). So it is... More

My daughter and I were on a 'road trip' to Franz Josef from Dunedin to view a potential horse purchase. We had traveled for about 5 hours non stop. When we arrived we were greeted by a lovely, friendly British lad who had only been in NZ for about three months. He checked us in, gave us a map and... More

Really beautiful experience. Great clean well equipped rooms, with everything u need. Heaters and hot water bottles supplied also, so easy to keep warm. Great bar/restaurant/gift shop area. Friendly & helpful staff. Highly recommend. Birds in the trees in the morning were amazing. Definitely walk to the blue pools up the road too. Lots of other tramping options in the... More

Stayed here for one night on the way to the glaciers. Very isolated, rural setting. Stayed in a A-frame chalet. The chalet was comfortable but very warm after being in the mid-summer sun, but soon cooled down overnight. There is no phone coverage between Wanaka and West Coast, fortunately the centre has wifi available for a very reasonable price. The... More
