We'd spent a weekend at The Bell in 1996 so we knew roughly what to expect. The object of this visit was the fortnightly Jazznight, held in the Cavendish Suite above the rear part of the building. A special Sunday night rate of £45 per room (including breakfast) applies to Jazznights attendees, though I imagine anyone could get that rate... more

Spent saturday night on a bank holiday weekend here. Large room overlooking the square in main building which was lovely. Last time we had one round the back by the car park, view not so good there. We booked a break including dinner and breakfast. Ths proved to be good value for money. We sat in the bistro section of... more

We were just passing through and had seen the hotel web site so planned to stop here for dinner. As we were by this time a bit tired we opted for the £10 2 course special. My wife started with whitebait and I had the main course scampi salad. You should not expect a lot for £10 and in this... more

We booked this hotel out for a weekend for our wedding guests recently and if you are thinking about doing the same I would recommend the Bull Inn in Long Melford instead. The Hotel has character and is quaint in a quirky way but as a hotel we found them very difficult to do business with. They were unaccommodating, unhelpful... more

A group of us stayed in this pretty, characterful inn. I had a single room, which had twin beds and only one armchair! Mostly nice and clean, but the carpet was a bit tired and there was some mildew around the bottom of the shower glass. It would have been nice to have a grab handle on the bath or... more

We have just returned after spending 5 nights at the Bell Hotel in Clare with a group of 20 from our rambling club (all of us retired). This proved an excellent choice and the hotel met our requirements in every respect. From the time we booked until we left at the end of our break, all the staff made us... more

I have thought long and hard before writing this review as the Bell Staff are lovely and really try to give you an enjoyable stay and there are many positives about the hotel and the area. My husband and I stayed in one of the rooms surrounding the parking area. It was very nicely furnished and very clean but unfortunately... more

We booked a mid-week 2 nights dinner bed and breakfast. The whole experience was a delight. Friendly and helpful staff. Food was outstanding and breakfast was everything you could wish for. We had a superior double room that was spacious and comfortable. Yes, the shower is akin to a tropical downstorm! We enjoyed the signed walks around the castle ruins... more

Clare is a lovely village and the Bell a fine place to stay over. We arrived on Christmas Eve for two nights, had a delicious dinner in the pub and stayed upstairs in the main building. The room was compact but cosy and not lacking anything. There's loads of walking you can do from the pub: along the river, to... more

We needed to stay in Clare at short notice for one night. This small country town has a number of B&B's a couple of which we have used and whilst they are acceptable they are not particularly cheap. The Bell used to be part of a small chain run by a brewery but in the past couple of years, following... more
