I felt unwelcome in this hotel. The owner is extremely condescending. My partner was told not to wear his shorts in the dining room. Of course he wouldn’t have done anyway, we had just arrived and it was a warm day. Mr.Gardiner clearly thought we were the type not to understand dining room etiquette by the way we dressed and... more

The moment we walked through the door we felt welcomed into The Red House Country Hotel. I booked the hotel after a google search and after reading the reviews am glad that I ignored the negative ones. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The room was clean and the view spectaular. The dinner was excellent. The staff were... more

We reviewed this hotel a few years ago. We now stay there twice a year, once for 6 nights and once for four nights, so have seen the quality improving from what already a high base. They have won an AA Rosette for the second year now and in our opinion they have raised their game to thoroughly deserve it.... more

we have just got back from a 5 night stay at one of the best hotels we have had the pleasure of staying in. Great view, very clean and well looked after, decoration emaculate. Very helpful staff, will even save your unfinished bottle of wine for the next night, most places only interested in selling you as much as they... more

Stayed there while on a weekend break to Derbyshire. Clean room, lovely food and breakfast! Very quite and tranquil (can hear a pin drop in the dining room). Our bedroom had a beautiful view of the gardens. Staff were very helpful and the place it self has been lovingly restored and looked after.....Would definately recommend it for a romantic night... more

Arrived without warning around 5.30 p.m.: seeking half way stop on trip north. No quibble about only staying one night. Lovely Arts & Crafts house with beautiful period fittings. Everything provided, down to hot water bottles (not necessary). Marvellous food: not too much of it, but all delicious. Served with grace and elegance to suit the surroundings. Very pleasant sitting... more

We were given a voucher for my husband's birthday for one nights stay at the Red House Country Hotel in Matlock and were very much looking forward to a night away. We had a little difficulty booking, we called on two occasions and were told they did not allow one night stays - fair enough but after checking with the... more

We can only apologise unreservedly to you and your husband. We have now amended our vouchers and make sure that those buying them are informed that single night bookings are not normally available at weekends. You also have every reason to be dissatisfied with the temperature of the room. We advance the heating in the winter so that our guests...
