We came in here for lunch. All three of us chose fish and chips expecting as the title of the meal describes a 'whole fish' and chips! (the price was £6.95 each excluding drinks). The meal shortly arrived but we were given an extremely small, mean, meagre portion and for one moment I actually thought we had been given the... More

Found a little gem of a pub tucked away in matlock. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, the food came out nice and hot the stake was cooked to perfection. The building could do with a spruce up but a very traditional pub all in all. The staff was very warm and welcoming. A very enjoyable vist. Will defiantly return.

Stopped here for lunch last Sunday with my wife and daughter, January 2014. Things started going wrong when we noticed that we had been given dirty glasses for our drinks, eg. lipstick and smudges on glass. We ordered chicken pie and salmon. The food reminded me of school or hospital dinners. The food was bland and uninspiring. All in all... More

On a trip to Matlock we chanced across this place in December 2012. It was magical, felt so Christmasy with a big decorated tree with sparkling lights, a roaring fire and Christmas music playing in the background. There were plenty of drinkers and eaters even though it was a mid week evening. We had a nice meal and very much... More

carpet filthy, cobwebs, nylon sheets and mould. Kind of place you need to put your shoes on to go the bathroom and you sleep with the light on so the bugs don't come out!!!! Windows dirty, glass at breakfast dirty, toilet roll almost empty. Three no smoking signs in the room and six packs of half decent biscuits but only... More

We enjoyed 2 nights at this hotel and found the management and staff super people and most accommodating. Really nice meals (dinner and breakfast). It was disappointing that the restaurant wasn't open Wednesday night but only in the sense we did so enjoy the menu. Some traffic noise but only if you are like us and want a bedroom window... More

We called in to The Boathouse in Matlock for the first time this week after spotting it on the way home from the Peak District. We headed in and were met by the very friendly staff. We ordered drinks, and both of us had the steak and ale pie meal. The pub has a small, homely feel to it, which... More

I brought my Mum here for a light lunch on a weekday - it was very quiet, there was only 1 couple in there besides us. The staff were friendly and down to earth but my Mum ordered a tea which was meant to be brought over to our table. However, they must have forgotten about it as we'd finished... More
