As a grumpy gay Northerner, one of my favourite highlights of staying away is having a good old critical 'postmortem' of the hotel on the journey home, today my partner was left bemused on the drive up North as I struggled to find fault with anything at 'The Pines' - Cheryl was warm, friendly and a great host, the ensuite... From greeting us on arrival and helping with bags, superb knowledge of the local area, lovely clean and comfortable rooms, fantastic full English breakfast with homemade bread and marmalade. Nothing was too much trouble, and the dog was treated like royalty. Would highly recommend.

All through the holiday (5 nights), Cheryl was amazing - great with us, great with the dog, fab breakfasts, hand-written maps provided to help with those tricky last stages of a journey, help choosing, and booking if necessary, where to eat for lunch and dinner (pointing out the dog-friendly pubs and cafes). Lovely, clean rooms, towels were changed halfway through.... More

My wife and I stayed for two nights in the Nightingale room. We had our two Miniature Schnauzer's with us, one a 15 week puppy - they were made very welcome - there is a large field a short step away for the dogs. This B&B is spotlessly clean, and Cheryl is a very genuine and caring person who is... More

My wife and I stayed in The Pines for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have slept in for ages (better than our own!!) and the breakfasts were true English all with locally sourced produce. And, home made bread, jams and marmalade. And it was as clean as a new... More

We spent a family weekend here in July 2014. We received a very warm welcome and Cheryl couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome. Although members of our group included a 7 month old baby and a loopy Border Collie, we were all felt at home at The Pines. Nothing was too much trouble. Our rooms were comfortable... More

Wonderful location, very dog friendly, excellent food, charming rooms beautifully renovated throughout, could live in the bathrooms! The most welcoming and helpful hosts ever. Do not miss an opportunity to stay here and experience how a B and B should be.

I have never stayed anywhere so perfect. Highly rated the cleanliness and friendliness of the hosts. Breakfast was everything you would want, the house is very interesting and the rooms were extremely comfortable with beautiful bathrooms. Great pub across the road serving good quality food and wines. I visited with 6 other ladies and we cannot wait to return.
