Wanted a short break for our 10th wedding anniversary and looked at reviews of Matlock. The Duke looked pretty good and we're pleased to say we had an excellent stay. Although on a busy T-junction it was very quite. The bar was well stocked with a good choice of wines and real ales. Food choice ranged from 2 for £10... More

Having checked reviews of hotels and B& B's in Matlock, we opted for the Duke of Wellington. Choice was based on reviews of a friendly welcome, and they weren't wrong. What a breath of fresh air to find a bubbly landlady, pleasant staff, and good home cooked food. Room was clean and had all we needed, bed could have been... More

The bathroom was just as good, nicely tiled and not one spot of mold anywhere. the electric heating... More

I have recently visited this establishment three times in as many weeks due to a family bereavment. How an earth have I never been their before, my mum lived in Matlock for 17 years and this lovely pub was only 600 yards from her house. The food is so well prepared and what is even better is the value the... More

Just returned for a one nights stay at the Duke. Our accommodation was in a converted stable block behind the pub, which was in a little courtyard. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed extremely comfortable and the room had nice lighting. The bathroom was a good size and also very clean. Beautiful soft, white towels and a welcome tray... More

Ate here last Sunday few minutes before 6pm after a long day in the Heights of Abraham and very hungry. There was offer of 2 for £10 (which finishes at 6pm), but so surprised that the lovely staff still accomodated us and gave us the deal. Food was prompt and delicioso! Worth returning!!!

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. The staff are very friendly (but not overbearingly so) and nothing is too much trouble. The meals are of a very high quality and reasonably priced. There is a choice of full English or continental breakfasts both of which are substantial. The rooms are situated in what used to be the... More
