Just returned for a one nights stay at the Duke. Our accommodation was in a converted stable block behind the pub, which was in a little courtyard. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed extremely comfortable and the room had nice lighting. The bathroom was a good size and also very clean. Beautiful soft, white towels and a welcome tray... More

Ate here last Sunday few minutes before 6pm after a long day in the Heights of Abraham and very hungry. There was offer of 2 for £10 (which finishes at 6pm), but so surprised that the lovely staff still accomodated us and gave us the deal. Food was prompt and delicioso! Worth returning!!!

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. The staff are very friendly (but not overbearingly so) and nothing is too much trouble. The meals are of a very high quality and reasonably priced. There is a choice of full English or continental breakfasts both of which are substantial. The rooms are situated in what used to be the... More

Was struggling to find somewhere at short notice for a Saturday night in August in Matlock this was all that was available really. Anyway, have to say it more than met our expectations. Everything was as described, quiet, clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was pleasant, our meal 2 for £10 was fine and drinks... More

Stayed here on Friday night and very much enjoyed the experience. We arrived at 2.00 pm and had a light lunch and a few beers. The rooms are outside in a separate building and are very comfortable with all the necessary facilities. Mine hosts are friendly and accommodating and the pub had a very good proper pub feel! No complaints... More

Great stop over here. Family room more like a mini suite - separate room with solid bunk beds for the kids. Room had just been redecorated and very nice and unusual. Quiet and comfortable. Kids were made to feel very welcome, there's a playground in the beer garden too. Nice breakfast. All in all, very pleased with the value and... More

Me and my son used the Duke if Wellington as a base for exploring the peak district. Rooms were nice, clean - very good value for money. The food was really nice at really nice prices! Backed up by the fact that the pub was always busy throughout our stay. Staff were polite and friendly. All in all a fantastic... More

Room small but clean & functional. A desk/work surface & chair in the room would be helpful to the business traveller. Using the TV was a bit of a palaver (2 remotes but you still had to work the satellite box manually). Food was unpretentious pub grub but was good, breakfast had fresh fruit which was welcome. Overall excellent value... More

We decided to visit Derbyshire quite late and our hotel options were very limited. Bakewell was full, so we chose Matlock and the Duke of Wellington looked the best of the options based on feedback. Check in was efficient and easy, although we'd carried our bags in only to go back out - all rooms are at the back, external... More
