A very friendly welcome to this wonderful guest house. Our double room was very clean and had everything you could need for a short stay. The shower was perfect to ease aching muscles are a long day walking in the hills, hot and powerful. Breakfast was a delight with a good choice of fruit, cereals, toast and a full cooked... More

We rented a twin room in this very pleasant house, perfectly located if you want to explore the Hope Valley and you are into walking. The owners are very welcoming, the room very clean and the breakfast was great! For us it was a very good value for money and we would surely recommend it to anyone

Our two night stay at Pioneer House turned out to be a great experience, I hadn't done extensive research when choosing a place to go for our three day mini-trip but luckily found we had picked a great place. The owners are both lovely, made a good fry up and gave us some great insight into the places we hoped... More

We were visiting a friend and needed an overnight stay. Pioneer House fitted the bill perfectly, being close to the station and with the bus stop outside the door, and the breakfast went down very well. Janet, the book about the dam is Deep Secret by Berlie Doherty!

A short-notice trip to attend the Bamford Community Society's open meeting about the future of their local pub, the Anglers Rest. Warm, comfortable, attractive and immaculately clean room, with a welcome from Janet and David to match. A lovely bathroom with all mod cons in a traditional style, and a rolltop bath you can swim in. I'd expect to pay... More

Stayed here for two nights for a wedding in the local area. Room was clean and better decorated than the pictures do justice. Great facilities and warm, homely atmosphere. Owners were nice, helpful and discrete too. Breakfast was very good with everything you could ask for. Will use again if in the area.

We stayed two nights here and could not fault a thing. David and Janet were most accommodating. The bedroom was excellent with en suite shower and all those little things which make a stay even more enjoyable. Breakfast, at a set time, was very good and we enjoyed sitting round the table chatting to the other guests and learning why... More

We visit relatives in Derbyshire once every couple of years and this is the best accommodation we've stayed in by far for a long time. The atmosphere is unique and very cosy just like home but the facilities are right up to date with good bathrooms, tv and wi-fi. We found it very easy to travel around on public transport... More

We stayed for two nights in an immaculately clean, very comfortable, well equipt room with tea/coffe making facilities, en suit shower room and television. I was wondering what the reviews of this place were after our visit. We didn't check Tripadvisor before we booked two nights there, but as it was a 4 star b&b with 'Breakfast Award', we didn't think much, especially that we didn't have the time for research. The reviews here are very good, but we didn't find the place that... More

Pioneer House is set in the stunning Hope Valley between Hathersage, Hope and Castleton, and is an ideal base for exploring this beautiful and interesting area, whether walking, climbing or just sightseeing. Our lovingly restored home is relaxed and friendly with three comfortable bedrooms that have up-to-date en-suite or private facilities. We are very well served by public transport with trains on The Hope Valley Line from Bamford Station a few minutes away, giving easy access to Edale for the start of the Pennine Way and the stunning plateau of Kinder Scout, or to Hathersage for Higger Tor and Carl Wark, and Grindleford for Froggatt Edge. Sheffield city centre is conveniently only 20 minutes away. The dams and reservoirs of the Derwent Valley are just a couple of miles away and are easily reached by the local bus service. For the more adventurous this service also gives access to the northern moorlands of Bleaklow, Howden and Derwent Edge. Alternatively there are many other excellent walks straight from our door ranging from easy to strenuous, so just leave your car on our drive and enjoy a carefree day out on the hills and moors of one of Britain’s most spectacular areas. ... more   less
