Nice location and room was clean. However, it was small and very hot despite heating being turned off. Also quite noisy as over the kitchen area. We paid silly money for ok food but had to eat it outside in the barn and they couldn't light the fire (it was january!!). They did manage to smoke everyone out and with... More

I'm not sure what the Monsal Head has to do to win, other reviews saying "normal walkers don't want posh food, they want cheaper filling food" then being outraged that it doesn't sell an obscure selection of real ales but has loads of normal beers! We completed a 5 mile walk, had 2 lovely pints of Monsal Gold and devoured... More

We visited the bar / stable for a quick fuel stop whilst walking the Monsal trail. Great bar with lovely features. Huge wood burning stove in the middle of the bar made it very welcoming. Lovely pint of real ale and very reasonably priced food and a very warm welcome from the staff.

We ate here because the cafe next door was closed. We ate in the stables bar which was old and charming with a log fire. The staff were helpful and the food excellent. I imagine you might need to reserve or arrive early when it gets busy in summer as it is only small. Also note we had our dog... More

A group of us booked to spend New Year at the hotel staying two nights including New Year's Eve. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble for the hotel staff. The rooms were clean and comfortable with fantastic views. Every meal we were served was superb in quality of ingredients and taste. A gala dinner arranged for... More

We stayed for three days over this years Christmas break, 3 sisters, 2 husbands, 2 children and 1 dog! We had three comfortable and well equipped rooms with not only the usual bathroom toiletries but a small bottle of Cava, a bottle of beer and a small decanter of sherry. There was also a wrapped present on the bed and... More

Stayed overnight with family to celebrate a birthday. Couldn't work the place out at all. The food was unusual (rabbit tagliatelle!) but of a very high standard. The decor downstairs is very smart, giving the impression of an upmarket hotel aiming at the top end of the market. Our room (7) was furnished in a totally bizaare manner, and badly... More

Thank you so much to all the lovely staff at the hotel for helping to make our break so relaxing and enjoyable. We stayed two nights - in the dreaded room 3, and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Yes, the place could do with an overhaul, But personally we loved the quirky, slightly eccentric decor. Who wants a... More

Sunday lunch, 1.5 hour drive with family from New York. We were charged 10% extra on top of our bill because there were 8 of us!!! We always leave a 10% tip anyway but to add it to the bill just because there are 8 people is crazy! How difficult is it to serve 8 people? If this is a... More

We stayed overnight on a dinner, bed and breakfast special offer. The room was nicely decorated, cosy, clean and had comfortable beds and lovely linens. It was in keeping with the older style of the hotel, and a nice change from the bland, modern interiors you often get. We ate in the Stables Bar, as there were no other guests... More
