From some of the previous comments we had no great expectations of Monsal Head other than the food. My friend had booked one night after researching it from her Vancouver home.We turned up early in the day and asked advice from 2 members of staff re walks. We didn't get the first man's name (on Reception) but he was welcoming... More

Called in at the halfway point on our weekly Sunday walk. We tried the Sunday Lunch (Roast Pork) and have to say that it was excellent in every way. Everything was freshly prepared and cooked to perfection - the chef should be commended on the quality of the food. The deserts are also absolutely delicious, I had a fruit crumble... More

Whilst staying near Bakewell on our holiday this year we were recommended to visit the Monsal Head for dinner one evening. Before we set off I had a look at the reviews on TripAdvisor as we often do in unfamiliar surroundings. Reading some of the comments left by management on other peoples reviews made for some uncomfortable reading and it... More

70 mile round trip for lunch????? Was it worth it? Oh yes! A far more innovative menu that expected. All four of our party ordered different three courses! All were splendid with first class service. Next door is a fine character public bar serving a more simple menu and a good selection of cask ales.

Went with three friends for lunch today and enjoyed fine dining at its best. We were the only people eating in the Longstone restaurant, which was akin in style to an old Town Hall. Three of us had starters, and the real foodie amongst us declared the pate to be superb although he did have to ask for some bread.... More

We called at the Stable Bar at the Monsal Head Hotel on 30th Sept 2014 after a walk from Millars Dale. I asked for a pot of tea for 2 and was astounded to be charged £4.80 for a half filled pot of lukewarm tea, which did not even give a full cup of tea for each of us. When... More

The hotel is a little tired in places but none the less is clean, comfortable and has character and is in a fantastic location. We stayed Sunday night, and were the only residents which meant it was nice and quiet, which was what we wanted. The food in the restaurant was very good - my large Thai fish cake salad... More

Dear 967Blossom967 Thank you for your review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. We fully agree that the hotel is tired, and we are slowly but surely bringing the hotel and Stables bar up to standard, without loosing the charm and beauty of the building, and maybe on your next stay you will notice... If you are expecting the Ritz, this hotel is not for you. If you want to stay in a hotel in a beautiful location with friendly and helpful staff, then come here. There is an old world charm about the hotel - the small decanter of sherry in the room adds to that feel. The views from the window of... More

My sister got married here this July and the family stayed at the Monsal Head for the whole weekend. All I can say is that it was the most perfect weekend! The beer festival was excellent, very well organised with lots of great cask to try. We went into the stables bar for food, and that was faultless. They clearly have a chef who takes pride in their food and presentation. The service was also great, with helpful and friendly staff. However, the management need a little work!. . . we... More
