We booked The Rutland Arms with some trepidation, as its Trip Advisor reviews are somewhat mixed, to say the least. In the event, it proved to be an inspired choice, as we had an excellent time. Good points: excellent, friendly, helpful staff – including a receptionist who chose to deal with us rather than continuing a phone conversation, which was... more

Hotel was in the centre of Bakewell which was busy on our weekday stay. Staff were friendly and helpful. Parking was limited but we had no problem. Room was at the front and slightly cramped mostly occupied with an oversize bed. Plenty of traffic being by a roundabout with lorries through the night and tractors early. Compact town with plenty... more

Despite the rather eccentric sense of humour of the owner (warning us of a recent rat problem in some of the bedrooms) we had a truly excellent experience at this hotel. It is a very traditional and comfortable place, and if our bedroom was anything to go by, the standard of furnishings and bathrooms is much higher than average. There... more

We wanted a stay in the Peak District and saw a posh website - but thanks to TripAdvisor we had a lucky escape. Out of curiosity we had a bar meal there - food not bad but the ambience and staff confirmed the reviews. Good for a quick meal so you watch the inmates and can feel like extras in... more

A gem of a hotel that really met our expectations. The standard of food was excellent, especially breakfast and the room in the main part of the hotel was clean, and had not only tea & coffee making facilities but also complimentary bottles of water. Staff on reception were polite and helpful and what a delight to see the owner... more

Wonderful staff, bizarre owner who must be hell to work for! Facilities updated and clean. The restaurant is over rated the bar food being particularly expensive for the quality and quantity.Having eaten here on a regular basis the meals do vary according to who is on duty on the day. Steer well clear of the cheese board - tiny bits... more

We stayed here for one night this week whilst on a last minute short walking break and only booked the day before. It is in an ideal location for walking. We were given a double room which was not in the main hotel building but across the road in a courtyard. The room was a reasonable size but a bit... more

We booked the hotel on the day, but because it is so busy we would suggest booking ahead especially if you are staying at the weekend. The breakfasts were the best we have ever had. We had dinner as well and this was also superb. A quaint hote with 57 clocks , so there is always one or two chiming... more

We originally had lunch here on New Years day and because we were a large group with small children, they placed us in a seperate room which worked quite well as the children, whilst well behaved, could be children and we could enjoy our food without worrying. Consequently, we booked this room for a return visit. On arrival, we were... more
