Our second visit to this lovely pub and we were not dissappointed! I did get off to a bad start though - knocked my full glass of Peroni over (don't know how it happened, and it was my first drink) - anyway, the lovely lady behind the bar was quick with cloths and even replaced my drink (big thank you)!... So let's be honest straight away - not only did me and my wife visit this pub during our stay in Bakewell because of the good Tripadvisor reviews, it was also partly to do with the witty and concise responses we saw from the Landlord too. Somehow, they just appealed to our humour and we liked the openness of them!... More

Right on cue - well I simply had to start my response with - didn't I. Thanks for the thorough and honest review MrCueBall, as you say it how it is, and should be, at our lovely humble little abode. All your choices re: meals, were well supported and served by our competent chefs and waitresses, as you rightly praise,... More

We have literally just returned from 3 nights at the Peacock. It was absolutely lovely. Let's start with the room- clean, well appointed and the bed was so comfortable I had to find out the make so I could buy one for home. Small point but often overlooked in other establishments is that there was a plug near the mirror... More

Look BuckGirl, and you don't look a day over 32 - so don't worry, but you can't simply come to Trip Advisor and say all these lovely things - well maybe you can, as I have to agree with all your comments, so shall I shut up now or carry on........ You all know me, well i'm sure you've read... More

thepeacockbakewell, Love grows where my Rosemary goes, at The Peacock Bakewell, responded to this review

....and Rosemary in this case is Sheila from Nottingham - and don't we just know it when she turns up, as she insists we play the old Edison Lighthouse hit on the Juke Box when she and Paul come through our doors! There is a limit to how many times you can listen to a golden oldie, and I'm not... More

Lucky to get a night here after a spontaneous decision to come up to The Peak District for some walking. A spacious room, although some larger people might find the en suite a bit small. Very clean and comfortable. If you stay on a Saturday night though you may find the live music from neighbouring pub a little noisy. I... More

thepeacockbakewell, Arthur Seaton, or is it Alan Sillitoe, well it could be one of 'em at The Peacock Bakewell, responded to this review

Thanks to the LichenMoss who gives an honest appraisal of what we offer at the Peacock and hopefully the spontaneous stay, albeit a Saturday night only was fully justified. Lucky to get the one night on a Saturday, due to a cancellation! Thank you. More

I visited the Peacock for lunch on Saturday afternoon with my husband and 3 friends. We ordered at the bar, but was told there would be a 35 minute wait. None of us were bothered, as we could see the pub was busy due to the time. We did notice however that there were only 2 members of staff behind... More

thepeacockbakewell, BUT - there are no buts, at The Peacock Bakewell, responded to this review

Lovely food - but.... There are no buts rozzyp12, because people who have buts in their life are just that - but, and if you don't plan on returning, I will have to, and can accept that as you do your thing, and we'll do ours! But i'll tell you right now, you are a moaner, as the food you... More

Went for a meal, 4 adults and 1 child, Saturday afternoon. Third visit, decent food but feel that the standard of service has definitely declined. No effort was taken to make us feel welcome, they weren't overly busy. Cutlery virtually thrown at us, plastic bottle of Hellmann's mayonnaise banged down on the table, made to feel that we were an... More

thepeacockbakewell, Nothing, I repeat, NOTHING gets's slammed down, at The Peacock Bakewell, responded to this review

You know what - I have a fantastic reputation with my responses on Trip Advisor, most people understand, the delinquents, and thankfully they are in the vey small minority don't, but with this one I can't even be bothered, it's so pathetic.... Get off your Arylsulfatase E next time, as there is plenty of mayonnaise around the Peacock, and none... More

Used this place following the write up on TripAdvisor - and was also intrigued to see what the landlord was actually like! Superb Sunday roast, best we've had in a long time - well presented, very tasty and delivered really quickly given the number of people using the premises. Would highly recommend it and if we lived nearer it would... More

Had Sunday lunch here, which was fantastic with piles of meat, huge Yorkshire pudding and plenty of veg. Quite pricey, but you get what you pay for and the portions are substantial. It was so good we went back the next day and were not disappointed with thai fishcakes and southern fried chicken. Again large portions of well cooked, hot... More
