Went for a trip to Bakewell for Sunday Lunch.. It was a cold snowy Sunday today, one of our party checked trip advisor, hey presto.. The Peacock.. Found it easily enough, courtesy of the local map... Very busy pub, one of our party very disappointed no proper ale to drink, a couple of golden ales, local brew, not a decent... More

We are humbled with you kind words caroleT312, you say it all, but with one massive mis-demeanour, as we do in fact serve wonderful draught beers/ales from the Local source of Peak Ales, with the Chatsworth Gold and Bakewell Best. They are as proper an ale you will ever find, but we over look your simple mistake as you post... More

I ate here twice in December 2015. Once as a group and once as a couple. On both occasions the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was fab, a full Sunday lunch on the first visit - meat cooked to perfection, a cracking Yorkshire pudding and a good selection of veg. On my return visit I had a... More

Went there on a rather wet day and we all had a light lunch of 3 x hot pannies with different fillings and 1 with baked potato. Although bar/restaurant was very busy there was no problems with the service.

Mickey M thanks for posting, but 3 stars was I feel a little hard to accept because you order the basics, but you will not find better paninis served this side of the Flavian Amphitheatre in Rome and the jacket potatoes are even better than the best, hey but we thank you for small mercies regardless! We had a good lunch experience...food was fine n value for money. Evening not so...set up for food only...we were not made welcome as evening drinkers only. I understand it is a commercially sensitive business in a market town and they need to optimise the P&L ...just need to get the balance between £ & customers right otherwise it may... More

And quite frankly colette12014 you should have stopped at, "great lunch with food was fine and value for money", because beyond that you don't have much idea really - do you? You don't really understand a thing in truth, other than what you put in your mouth, because what comes out of it is all nonsense, as we have a... More

Went to The Peacock for Christmas Day lunch with my wife and two daughters. On entering the pub we were met with a warm and friendly welcome. We were shown to our table that had been set in a festive manner. The table was of a good size to seat four people in absolute comfort without being cramped or too... More

We came with a party of 9 today, we were given a lovely little cosy snug to sit in, all to ourselves. When we looked at the menu there were a few comments of "Owww Much!!!!" from around the table (to be expected from any discerning Yorkshire man paying over a fiver for a meal) but it was very good... Looks traditional from outside, but character completely overhauled inside and modernised. More of a restaurant, couldn't find somewhere to sit where didn't feel like I was stopping others from eating. That said, was welcome and quit for quick pint.

I'm not sure what spectacles you wear amcorrigal, but set aside the conservatory at the back of the Peacock which replaced the redundant courtyard, the Peacock to my knowledge hasn't been modernised since before the war - the second world war, but what do I know as you come up from Cambridge with your local knowledge and observation. Stopped in here on recent travels. The pub is nice and homely, the fire was on as it was freezing outside. We only wanted a sandwich because not that hungry, but the menu looked very tempting. Visited The Peacock of Bakewell recently on a rainy day not knowing what to expect. It started chucking it down so we decided to run to the nearest pub and grab some food and a bigger than life pint.
