Stayed at the Portland as we were having our Works Christmas party in the Pub below, this is the second time i have stayed here and have to say it was great from the friendly staff to the room which was spotless, it was quiet with no noise from the revellers in the street, the only minus point is the... more

As part of my 50th Birthday celebrations the Wife and I decided to have a night on the town in Chesterfield. We live about 9 miles away and as it costs about £20.00 for a taxi we decided to really push the boat out and pay £55.00 to stay one night at the Portland hotel. I know this Pub/Hotel very... more

Against the advice of her travel agent, my sister insisted on staying at the Portland Hotel in Chesterfield. It turned out to be one of the better decisions she made in planning our trip. Beginning with it's convenient location just a block from the coach station our stay at the Portland was a true delight. The staff were pleasant and... more

We stayed here on a 3 nights for 2d eal and having never used Wetherspoons Lodges before I was expecting simple accommodation. I have to say I was truly impressed with the entire Wetherspoons concept. The accommodation was very nice and spacious, modern and clean. The service from the bar staff who also double as hotel staff was excellent too.... more

Arrived Friday 20th June and left Monday 23rd June 2008. This was our third time staying at this Wetherlodge (accommodation above a Wetherspoons pub), by pure coincidence is was also our third stay in room 104. This time some friends were also coming with, on our recommendation. As it was husbands birthday on the Sunday and this venue was doing... more

This was our second stay at the Portland Hotel, but we knew the hotel from its pre-Wetherspoon incarnation. We had no problems checking in, and were successful in moving down from the second floor (steep staircase, dark rooms with small windows) to the first (better access, larger windows). The room itself was comfortably large, with a large-ish, if slightly industrial... more

Booked two rooms, but had to cancel. Portland had my bank card details. Portland took the whole cost PLUS AN ADDITIONAL AMOUNT FOR THE CANCELLATION !!!!! I actually cancelled just after 12 noon on the day and they more then likely re-let those rooms. Nice little earner for Portland but extremely poor customer service in my view. more

The Hotel is right in the centre of Chesterfield, there is car parking, only for 12 cars, but we always got a spot overnight. There were 5 of us, two grandparents, a daughter and two grandchildren. One room had three beds and the other two, both rooms were very spacious, above normal compared to modern hotels. The bathrooms were good... more

Portland Hotel Aug. / Sept. 2006 Portland Hotel, located in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, is part of the Wetherspoon chain and is located across the street from the Chesterfield Coach station. Very convenient as we arrived by coach from London and had only to walk across the street with our luggage. It was a bit difficult to get into our prebooked room... more

Okay. I’m a bit of a snob, so the thought of staying at a town centre Wetherspoons was under-whelming to say the least. My experiences have not been good: squawking teenagers juiced to the eyeballs on neon-coloured alcopops; toothless, mumbling old soaks nursing cheap bitter…..But I was delighted to be proved completely and utterly wrong with this place. It is... more
