From the workhouse like exterior (In the middle of a very busy ring road) to the very basic lobby and reception our hearts sank. The lift to our room just about fitted 2 people, and creaked its way slowly to the second floor. In our room we were met by a soaking floor, no heating and towels across the base... more

The room was a little tired and dated and the bedspreads could certainly do with renewing as does the furniture which has cup rings all over them. However, the room was clean and offered the usual. TV was old and only had 4 channels with channel 4 being very grainy, you would expect a few more these days. The room... more

What a very scary and crusty hotel. Our room was unbearably hot so it was either boil or be deafened by the ring road. Very shabby room with stains on the ceiling. Furniture old and battered, door to where mini bar had been was hanging off and there was a very sharp splinter of a plank in there (does no-one... more

Stayed with a friend in August. The room was very clean and the bathroom recently refurbished. A bit noisy but as we had been walking all day we slept well. Room well equipped. Towels changed daily. The staff were young, keen to please, and very helpful. Had the complimentary meal included in the tariff which was very nice. For the... more

I've stayed here twice. On both occasions the hotel has been overhot but table fans in the rooms do something to cool the temperature. Always book through a discount website - you can pay as little as £20 per night bed and breakfast. The breakfast is good as is the 17m swimming pool (open until 9pm, or 6pm on Sundays)... more

I was very worried after booking this hotel after reading reviews but have just returned from a lovely 2 night break. Booked a 2 night deal with dinner on the 1st night, breakfast and tickets for Chatsworth House for £59 per person. The rooms could do with updating and the hotel is overlooking a busy road but on the whole... more

I'd already booked this hotel when I started reading some of the truly terrible reviews so I checked in expecting to check out again before I came to the end of my stay.... but honestly, I couldn't see what all the fuss was about. The only thing I would really agree about is that the place is looking a bit... more

Unbearably hot, stuffy room. Double bed pushed up against wall. Tatty furnishings, old fan, scruffy wallpaper, windows did not open. Pool and gym not open after 6pm, dirty window sills in dining room. Surrounded by motorways and opposite train station. Lift didn't work. Staff friendly and helpful, free car park, good location for Chesterfield town centre. Bathroom surprising large (bigger... more
