Ohhh how I wish I had read the reviews before we went! We did have a nice time, and we did come away relaxed, but what a very expensive weekend it turned out to be! (I don't mind paying nearly £600 for a weekend away, but I expect it to be 1st class and this certainly was only economy!) Not... more

Having stayed at the Bishopstrow previously we were very concerned about the recent reviews we had read on Trip Advisor. We are however delighted to report that we have just had 2 wonderful, relaxing days at the Hotel to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. The hotel is beautiful and the recent work that has been completed adds the extra wow factor.... more

Our room: Extremely tatty. We booked a superior room, having seen the pictures online. On arrival we were put in the Wimbourne room, which was in a poor state of decoration and rather gloomy. The french doors opened on to a part of the garden which was untidy and certainly unappealing to sit out on. I requested that we were... more

This hotel SHOULD be great - it's a lovely place in beautiful grounds, with SOME good staff. Although he rooms in the main house are nice, they're way overprices. "Courtyard" rooms, which are more sensibly priced if you're lucky are no better than a Holiday Inn, with thin walls, creaky floorboards and very slow internet connection when it's actually working.... more

Our stay at Bishopstrow house was disappointing – we paid nearly £600 to stay for the Valentine’s weekend and would definitely say that it wasn’t worth the money. On booking the hotel over the phone, we were told if we selected one of the more expensive rooms we would be upgraded to one of the top three suites on arrival.... more

When we arrived we were greeted immediately at the front door. Staff showed us all facilities, took our bags up to our room, and responded politely and promptly to any request. Sitting eating cream tea (delicious fresh scones) on the lawn served on a silver tray was like stepping back in time. Our room was huge - very spacious with... more

Sadly what should be a beautiful, luxury and tranquil hotel as described on the website and in their glossy brochure was nothing near during our stay this weekend. As we drove up the drive the peeling sign, numerous skips did not bode well. Clearly the hotel in undergoing major building work, which was at no point mentioned when we booked.... more

Picture the scene - 24 valuable hours without the children. Luxury hotel in Wiltshire. Sunny weather. Seems too good to be true! The alarm bells rang as I drove up the drive. Scaffolding, builders debris and a temporary car park! Reception was efficient and we were shown to our room (?) in the old stables. In simple terms, small, poor... more

A luxury country house? Lovely room with french windows leading to the garden...torn lamp shades, rust & torn towels in the bathroom with an adventurous colony of garden ants. French windows leading to the roof of the new swimming pool (descibed when booking as "garden view"). Staff struggled with breakfast including soggy toast, cold cooked breakfast and not exactly what... more

VERY good staff - always attentive but not intrusive. Welcoming and friendly, without being over the top. When we arrived and saw all the building works going on our hearts sank - but in fact it had no impact on us at all - all very quiet and unobtrusive. Not sure why previous reviewers say they couldn't find the car... more
