Picture the scene - 24 valuable hours without the children. Luxury hotel in Wiltshire. Sunny weather. Seems too good to be true! The alarm bells rang as I drove up the drive. Scaffolding, builders debris and a temporary car park! Reception was efficient and we were shown to our room (?) in the old stables. In simple terms, small, poor... more

A luxury country house? Lovely room with french windows leading to the garden...torn lamp shades, rust & torn towels in the bathroom with an adventurous colony of garden ants. French windows leading to the roof of the new swimming pool (descibed when booking as "garden view"). Staff struggled with breakfast including soggy toast, cold cooked breakfast and not exactly what... more

VERY good staff - always attentive but not intrusive. Welcoming and friendly, without being over the top. When we arrived and saw all the building works going on our hearts sank - but in fact it had no impact on us at all - all very quiet and unobtrusive. Not sure why previous reviewers say they couldn't find the car... more

Booked by phone just the day before with no problem at all, very friendly, helpful staff. Their website did say the there was some work being carried out on the outside pool and restaurant but didn't quite mention the impact it would have on the stay. It was difficult to park and that was after you found where the car... more

We stayed in Bishopstrow House for the first May Bank holiday this year as we wanted to visit Longleat. Lovely hotel and very friendly staff; they were especially nice to our 3 year old son. Loved our room - not enormous, but lots of character and nice views out. Style is quite old fashioned, but in a good way. Gorgeous... more

We didnt actually stay in the hotel, but ate at the restaurant, which normally would have been in the Mulberry, but due to renovations we ate in the hotel. We had booked a table months in advance as we had guests on their first trip from Florida USA over to England. The staff couldn't have made them feel any more... more

We chose to stay at Bishopstrow House for one night in preparation for our trip to Longleat Safari Park and we were not disappointed. Whilst the hotel is part of the Von Essen Group, it is perhaps not as luxurious in terms of decor as people might expect. We asked to see two rooms, a standard and a superior as... more

And then you go and spoil it all.... We spent a pleasant weekend here despite the ongoign renovatios and rather faded grandeur. And then I got my bill and discoved an item marked voluntary gratuity 15%. How can it be voluntary is it itemised on the bill? Maybe they meant optional, but whichever way I resent being asked to tip.... more

Having stayed at a couple of other Von Essen hotels (Cliveden, Washbourne Court) we were hoping for better quality and service all round. My family and I had four rooms in the main house which were large but worn. The rooms all need refurbishment which I understand from the receptionist is happening room by room but no sign of anything... more

the bishopstrow house hotel is a von essen hotel, but for how much longer i wonder! our weekend break was spoilt by a rather noisy and inconsiderate family birthday party on the sunday lunch which managed to take over most of the hotel for the whole afternoon. this hotel is not large enough and the staff not organised enough to... more
