Dirty, cramped bathroom, in desperate need of a refurb - dubious brown stains and cobwebs on the walls/ceilings. Peeling wallpaper & torn carpet in the bedroom. We had to ask for towels as we were left without any!! the drinking glasses in the room were disgusting - unwashed. Most of the staff are unhelpful - almost arrogant . Not at... more

Having booked the hotel on the monday night special, and the fact that it is apparently a dog friendly hotel, we had no doubt this was the perfect place for a 1 night getaway....However on arrival the receptionist showed surprise we had a dog albeit a puppy who was very excited and a bit noisy, they are supposed to accept... more

We stayed at the Devonshire Arms for a 3 night break for my birthday at the start of June and it was perfect. The location is excellent with great walks right from the door. We were met in the car park and our bags were taken to our room, the receptionist greeted us and showed us around. Our room (A... more

We recently stayed for 3 nights in the Lismore Suite. Overall, our stay was somewhat disappointing for the price paid. The service was not up to 4 star standards (indeed, our "welcome" was non existant and we were kept waiting for our room for 2 hours). The suite was nice, but I would choose the Herbert Royle suite over the... more

Stayed for 1 night & were lucky with the weather which made this break even better. The reception was very welcoming & staff very friendly & helpful. We were shown around the various public areas before being taken to our lovely big room. The leisure facilities were excellent & what a lovely walk down to the abbey. We had our... more

Stayed here with the children so needed to book 2 rooms, expensive as was £1k, for 2 nights but included food in Brasserie and need to pay £25 supplement each for the Burlington, food was excellent in both. The rooms were decidedly shabby for the money, curtains badly ripped in the room called Cartoon, and soft furnishings tired and faded, told receptionist who... more

Staff were 100% efficient, with a delightful choice of rooms, whilst the "Burlington" dining experience was outstanding every evening, with unsurpassed dishes served exquisitely. Full compliments to all those that laboured to make our stay so superb. So rarely do you come across a Hotel where everything runs just as you would wish. more

This historic house (owned by the Duke of Devonshire) is located in the Yorkshire countryside with miles of walks amidst gardens and fields. While the public rooms and bedrooms are very well done, the real highlight is the superb service. Clearly this is an extremely well-run establishment with everyone from the hall porter to the restaurant manager and sommelier demonstrating... more

We've been lucky enough to stay here several times and we've always enjoyed ourselves, finding it very relaxing and comfortable. When we heard about management changes, we were therefore a bit concerned, but we needn't have worried - it's got even better. We were pleased to see on this visit that there were more local staff on reception and all... more

We have just returned from a wonderful 6 night stay at the Devonshire and have nothing but praise for the hotel, staff, food and setting. We found the staff to be, without exception, extremely helpful, courteous and professional and a credit to the hotel. The cleaners were lovely and did a very thorough job. I have an allergy to milk/cream... more
