I am here at ametzola and am so impressed. The house is beautiful and authentic and situated in amazing scenery. Views from rooms are wonderful especially the suite. Food is great and dinner was absolutly worth booking. Showers are excellent and bed was very comfortable. I was sat this morning on the very wide wooden ledge in the bedroom looking... More

Mikel is a great host. A source of information and enthusiasm for Bilboa, everything Basque and Spain. He is also an excellent chef. Our tom tom had a struggle with the cat's cradle that is the Bilboa road system but as you enter the quiet of the Zeberio Valley you know your life is improving. A steep 1 in 3... More

My Wife and I had a wonderful visit in Mikel's wonderfully restored farmhouse high on the ridge-line in hills surrounded by the Parque Natural. His evening meal was served with excellent Muriel Rioja and was enjoyable. Breakfast with excellent coffee, was also enjoyable. We wish to return for a longer stay.

My son and I have stayed one night in April 2014 in the 300 year old Basque farmstead Ametzola, in Biscay. Ametzola's architecture is apparently common in Zeberio but less common for other Basque regions. It features a square plan with a wooden structure. The voids between the visible external beams and pillars are filled in with bricks. In the... More

All the reviews are true! Ametzola is indeed a very special place. As soon as you step out of the car into the magical mountain-side setting and are greeted by Mikel and Cintxo (his Catalan sheepdog), you feel transported a million miles away from the city and very much 'at home'. A large lush garden surrounds the house and there's... More

Tastefully restored old country house full of character in a lovely mountain setting. What makes this place so special is the host, Mikel, who is friendly, knowledgeable, generous and a great chef as well. Staying here even 1 night and eating dinner and breakfast is a great experience, but stay longer if possible.

We had a wonderful one night stay with Mikel. The house is beautiful and in the middle of stunning countryside. The rooms were lovely, clean and comfortable - very nicely decorated. Dinner was delish - breakfast was a feast. Mikel is charming, welcoming, and all of us (including 3 shy teens) felt like old friends by the end of our... More

Incredible house, phenomenal Basque food, the nicest host you could ever wish for in Mikel, stunning views and the whole Basque Country at your doorstep. Other things: - Breakfasts to die for with only the finest quality jamon and cold meats. - Excellent routes to go mountain biking all around (it's HARD GOING though!) - Different cuisine every night, homecooked... What a find. Despite being hospitalised earlier in the week our host welcomed us like old friends. Our suite was gorgeous. Dinner was simple and beautifully cooked. We'd definitely come back here and urge anyone visiting the area to book without delay.
