Just enjoyed five nights in this lovely ancient Innl between leaving my house and taking on a short term tenancy locally. Was accommodated in two different rooms over my stay - a measure of how busy this sensitively adapted boutique hotel is - but both rooms were wonderfully appointed and well looked after. I had five nights amazing sleep, several... More

We arrived in Welwyn early for our appointment so popped in for a coffee. Good personable service, pleasant atmosphere, specials and main menu looked interesting so we returned for lunch. Again good service, food arrived promptly, well cooked and tasty (although the tempura batter should have been crisper), but the chocolate brownie pudding that we shared was simply outstanding. (We... More

We were visiting our second son & his family for a short break , which coincided with our granddaughter Lauren's 18th. She picked the Wellington having visited before. We had olives bread & dips to share for a starter , (6 of us) which were very nice. For mains 3 had steak, two salmon& one lamb. All very nice we'll... More

The Wellington has for years been my first choice when eating out and it has never let me down. Last night was the first time I had visited for about 6 months and what a disappointment. I struggled to find something from the specials menu and what I had was tasteless and very poor value. It seemed like a completely... More

This was my second visit to this very popular and comfortable restaurant. However... The food's not as good. For a start off the menu was disappointingly wintery. I fancied a lovely big salad but there wasn't anything particularly appetising on offer. Also, I had the fish pie which wasn't very big, served with a small, limp salad on a hot... More

We have just visited the Wellington on Saturday. First impressions are great, fantastic decor and interior, nice patio area. The waiters were very attentive and friendly but the food menu was a bit average and slightly overpriced. I ended up with a burger as I couldn't decide on anything else. It seems a pity that such a nice resturant should... More

We tried the Wellington again having avoided it for 18 months after a terrible Xmas meal in 2012. Staff friendlier than before which is an improvement but service in general still very slow. Overpriced breakfast and nothing special..better restaurants in Welwyn to go to..

Waited ages to order, then ages more for a pretty uninteresting meal. Vegetables were raw - I like them undercooked but this was ridiculous. Only managed to get the bill by putting my coat on and heading towards the door. The couple at the next table waited even longer for their meal only to be told that the chef was... More

This was a great little find on our journey home from the Ladies Cycling Tour at WGC. It's a 13th Century former coaching inn and has been brought bang up-to-date as a boutique bistro + pub/bar with accommodation (similar to the Hotel du Vin style). This mix of characterful with contemporary has been carried through to the menu which offers... More

My wife and I stayed at the Wellington for a family event. Originally being locals I remember this place as a pub and then restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised that this has now had some rooms added and the quality of them is excellent. The price included a superb quality breakfast. In the room, the furnishings are of superior quality... More
